  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
50' CONV -Series I (1966 - 1969)
I know their have been discussions before but have their been any improvement to these camera systems?
I'm looking for something wireless that I can put a couple cameras on the boat and connect to the wifi in the house which is about 80' from the boat. I want to be able to monitor the bilge and panel from my iPhone when I'm not there. I've tr one of those Dlink stand alone cameras but even with tech support couldn't get it to work with the IPhone like to spend under $500 and DIY

Netgear has a wifi camera called Arlo. I don't know anything about them yet. I am interested in something similar to keep an eye on the boats at the dock in front of my office.

cameras are useless without the DVR. The packages allow not only monitoring but recording so you can look back at who did what.

I sell the packages often to people who want to watch their boats when they leave them in marinas away from home for extended periods. WiFi is a must to be able to monitor the boat unless your put a cellular system in.

Take a look at the Nest cam. I use one in my home. Great product. About $200.00

This is a tough one but there are possibilities. I use Foscam IP cams. They have a few that have card storage so you can record snap shots and video if there is a detected motion alarm. They will also email you.

But for simple monitoring, without setting up a local net on the boat, I think you are looking at a wifi repeater to get the signal out to the boat.

This is what I did. Basically within your price and you get better wifi reception on the boat. I set up a regular netgear inside the boat. This has a subnet of 192.168.70.xxx. The cams wifi to this router and it port forwards to them. This router ethernet port is connected to a ubquity bullet that has an antenna on the radar arch. It has a subet mask of 192.168.69.xx. It port forwards to the netgear. It connects to shoreside hotspots.

I use dyndns to provide name serving, and I can access the cams from anywhere.

Basically I'm looking for a nanny cam type setup. I don't care about recording.

I have had good service from the Foscam FI9821. It looks like they only have the plug and play version now. Check out the specs.

If you can access cams around the house over the internet from anywhere now, you can add one to the boat as long as the range is adequate. You may have to relocate the household router or install a range extender. I have never used one of those. If you can hook up to your household router with a smartphone on the boat in the locations where you will put the cams, one of these may do the job.

Remember most of the cheap nanny cams will not last a week in the damp environment and you may need one with ir if your monitoring dark spaces.

Dropcam. We use them a ton and they seem to work really well.

I have a wireless, battery powered system at my home. so no electricity needed either.. I use it to keep an eye on my home in Florida, when Im on the boat in California. Im not sure the wireless reaches 80' but it works great. Its motion activated which wont matter for you , but I can turn it on from my I phone and see whats happening

I like it enough that Im going to try and set up the same thing on the boat, but the wifi is lousy at the marina... so I pay a captain who lives in the marina to be my eyes and ears.

Hi, i stumbled across this when browsing my marina web page to pay the power bill online.

I hope you can access it.

Foscam has a one year warranty. I left the LED night lights on all the time on a hot boat, and it never failed. It did discolor the plastic around the lens. I sent it in about a week before the warranty was up and they replaced it. I am waiting for the one with 3x optical zoom to come down in price.

Instead of wireless, running a wire (cheap cat 5) may be more robust...and it's cheap.

I've got to run it from the house and bury it too much pita

lay it on ground and just scratch it below the surface...or just let grass grow up around it lol
