waterfront restaurants in Miami

I'm familiar with Ft Lauderdale having kept my boat there many times, but I have a non-nautical trip to Miami planned next week and I was hoping to get some vicarious pleasure from sitting at a restaurant (other than the one at Miaimi Beach Marina) and enjoying the boats docked/going by and some great seafood/ mojitos (not necessarily in that order!)

Question: Can you get that anywhere in the Miami/ Miami Beach or Key Biscayne area???

Bayside although for the most part a tourist trap, overlooks the marina with a lot of traffic.

Scotty's landing in Coconut Grove is right on the water between dinner Key marina and Grove Harbor. probalby your best bet...

Boater's Grill at No Name Harbor (tip of key biscayne inside the state park) has great views of the "harbor" very busy on week end and a non stop show with folks that cant' anchor or dock... very entertaining... but restaurant is packed on week end and food/service is average.

rusty Pelican, along the rickenbacker causeway has great views of downtwon and over look rickenbacker marina. good food, good drinks, if you don't mind valet parking only and waiting an hour to get your car back...

they dont' have enough parking space for the size of the restaurant so they have to use valet to cram as many cars as possible in the space... went once, never again.

funny thing is how everyone waiting for their cars seemed to think that it was normal...

Garcia's and Casa blanca. both seafood restaruants and both up the miami river. Waxy's is an Irish pub that serves good food. finngans bar grill is ok, big bar and a big pool and hot tub. mostly young, perfectly tanned women in bikinis and guys with their speedboats (the horror ). both also located up the miami river.

For watching boat traffic (and bikinis) while dining, I'll second what Mario said. The place with the swimming pool also has hot tubs if you're interested.

The other waterfront restaurants mentioned won't have a lot of traffic like you'd find on the ICW in Fort Lauderdale, but there are plenty of docked boats to see. Scotty's is located in front of a fuel dock which will be closed in the evening. People can bring their dogs to Scotty's. Monty's is surrounded by a marina and you won't be able to see much in the way of boats going by. The Chart House is right next door to Scotty's and situated between two marinas on the bay - not a lot of traffic passing traffic there, either, except for people going in/our of their slip, but there are several boats anchored a little way out from there, and docked boats on either side of the Chart House. The Rusty Pelican's evening traffic will mostly be across the bay on the other side (in the ICW). Rusty Pelican is adjacent to Rickenbacker Marina.

I cannot comment on who has good seafood since I don't like seafood, but Mario knows - I would follow his recommendations. He has taken Ed to a couple of those seafood places on the river and I've heard from him, as well, that they are very good.

There is a Monty's bar/restaurant. serves average bar food. the beer is good. They do make a mean She crab soup though. Monty's also has a pool with the usual attire that goes with it. MBM also has other good restaurants including a steak house.

What about the Marriott marina location where they have the boat show? I seem to recall a bunch of restaurants around there. Heavy boat traffic going in and out of Miami harbor. Or, anywhere south of there along the seawall.

There are a number of restaurants there, although only 1 views the marina. Next door, also at the marina is the Doubletree, again with several restaurants but limited water views. I stayed at the Marriott several years ago for the boat show, but don't remember enough about the food there to offer any current opinions.

Casablanca is indeed nice if your like sea food, up the river as mario said. They also offfer take out so you can pull up and pick up your order, dock is about 100' plenty deep

The Epic hotel has a nice restaurant and bar at the mouth of the Miami river. Their dock is often full though, BIG boats... On the other side of the bridge, same north shore, there is a long sea wall with cleats. About 6.5' MLW though. We tied up there on charter a few days ago while guests had dinner at a nearby restaurant. Nobody ask us anything, not sure if you would want to leave the boat tied up unattended.
