In reply to dottieshusband.... the old water heater was 48 cm but had expanded with rust / bloating to 49cm at the top and bottom caps. I had to cut the aluminium bracket on one arm to get it out of the cradle. The door was 44cm wide.
After the outer casing and foam were removed we wiggled it trough the door. Very heavy.

The replacement Kuuma 75 litre tank was easily carried in and positioned by myself. Much easier. We checked the OEM wiring diagram, bent some copper tube and made some flange connections. Also installed a couple of angle brackets to hold the heater in place against the rear bulkhead. It now sits on a 3/4" plywood base.
Hooked up the electricity and we have hot water again.
Looking back on this project i would have installed another domestic water heater, but all the ones I could find were too fat to go through the door. We will not use the engine heat exchanger.
