  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
58' YACHT FISHERMAN (1970 - 1981)
anybody have a 58yf that has a factory installed swim platform? i need the measurements and spacing of the brackets. my platform was installed before i bought the boat, someone used wood screws instead of tapping the factory aluminum plates. i need the measurements so i can find the location of the aluminum plates. i have located the center one--its a little to starboard of center, i dont want to start drilling to find the plates if someone can tell me the measurements. thanks, bigbill

This is just a senior moment thought. Find a good stud finder give it a go. It worked for me finding the the aluminum plate for the hand rails in the exiting the cockpit. Someone had removed them and glassed over the holes. Good luck.

I think Aluminum, will negate the magnetic effect.

If they work on magnetic i would agree. I will just say what does it hurt to try. It will find a stud behind sheetrock, behind wood paneling and so on. It lockated the begining of the aluminum in my case i had to drill and tap to install a handrail.
I am just a dum a@$ country boy i do not understand NEGATE to big a word for me.What i do know is aluminum is not magnetic. I found that out on the farm and working the still !!!
Since we going techninal get a temp gun and shoot it it may just measure the temp of the glass but the temp of the glass may be different where the aluminum is lockaded.

I am not at the boat and may not be able to get down there until the week after next. I'll keep an eye on tis post and take measurements for you if no one provides them before that.

Actually they sense a change in density. I know because that is what Google says.

Might work well for a few of us here. My wife is always telling me I'm dense.

I'll try to look on ours, it's a 1971 58YF.

thanks everybody for their input. tim you had the right idea. i tried my cheapo 10.00 stud finder, it beeped all over the place and not the same every time. looked into renting a metal detector but it beeped in too big of an area. i bought a stud finder with a metal detector setting, beeped in the same place every time. drilled and came out with aluminum on the bit. going back with silicon bronze bolts.

Appreciate you posting the results!

A moisture meter would also have worked. It can detect the copper screen in my hard top.

Sorry for the delay, I took some pictures including the measuring tape last weekend, from the port side to the middle. And one from inside on the starboard side.
