  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
58' YACHT FISHERMAN (1970 - 1981)
So I want to remove the carpet in my 58’YF salon. It’s pretty trashed, and I do not want to replace with new carpet. I have seen some lay vinyl plank flooring which is nice, but I would like something more traditional like a teak and holly but without the price tag of teak and holly. What have some of you done, let’s see some pictures and ideas. I saw one person take marine grade plywood with a nice veneer and tape off and stain the lines for a teak and holly look. It was done on a small boat, wonder if it could be done in the salon 10’x14’.

There are alternatives to carpet but none of it is cheap. They do sell 4x8 sheets of ply with T&H in many different colors.

I did the boat with NautikFlor and it is nice, for my boat, but if I had one of the bigger boats, I’d rather have the teak and holly.

Which I think is usually teak and holly plywood, nowadays?

Probably harder to install, but, much more durable, imo.

We used amtico teak and holly. Looks great still.

We didn’t do the salon but we did do from bow to master stateroom in Lonseal. Wasn’t cheap but looks great and extremely durable. Sorry about the bank angle.

I went with Marine Mat in my aft deck and if I was going to do my salon, I'd do the same. Here's the link to that thread...

New Flooring in Aft Deck - Marine Mat

If you search on flooring in the "Search Forums" box, you will come up with a lot of threads that discuss this...

I used Mirage flooring, 1/2 inch thick, 5 inches wide, up to 7 feet in length. The wear surface is a thin board, 1/8 inch thick , so it can be refinished.

A side view of the flooring. The trim around the hatches is solid 1/2 inch by 1.5 inch mahogany.

Ours, including the stairs and galley, was done in regular oak flooring with high grade marine epoxy finish. It lasts a very long time with little wear and tear. stairs.webpSalon.webpGalley 1.webp

Here's another vote for Lonseal, which looks good and lasts like iron.

I love my Lonseal in the Heads, but I have to stay carpet in my Salon.
