I have had prop speed on my shafts and props for 2 years with very good results. I am told that two years is about the max. Any idea the best way to remove the existing prop speed and prep for recoating? Do you need to use a solvent to loosen it up? Appreciate your thoughts?

Best,

Joe

Does your marina have restrictions on bottom anti fouling removal??

If not a disk sander is one way I've done prop cleaning over the years....early morning or late evening when "police" are not around is one way....

Slower but with no dust: use a paint remover and scraper and collect the muck in a container or newspapers under

Joe, I removed mine a couple of months back and found the back edge of a hacksaw blade used as a scraper fetched it off without doing damage. It comes off as a thin plastic type film. I had to remove it from the shafts to get new cutlass bearings fitted. I did not try any solvents but I suppose the manufacturer would advise.

I'd be real hesitant to use a sander or grinder on a prop, mainly because of a demonstration given to me showing how little material it takes to throw the prop out of balance. A 2 inch piece of masking tape on one blade can throw it way out. If they allow it in your yard, wouldn't sand blasting take it off the shafts?
