  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
I have already spent too much time designing a mount for my radar dome. I was about to copy the arch for the 43MY using measurements from Mambeaux's arch, but it just did not feel right to me for the DC.

I came across a picture of the 44 Hinckley FB and that looks right to me for the more traditional 43DC.

Trouble is, it is hard to take measurements and get proportions right from the available photos.

Does anyone have means to measure a Hinckley mast or comparable Hatters mast that might help me get the proportions right.

Thanks

Vincent,
I have a radar mast that the PO built on my boat. here is a picture. if you need i can take some better photos and send it with the dimensions.

Trouble,
If it is not too much trouble, I would like to have a better look at your radar mast and know its dimensions. It usually helps me to learn how someone else did it.
Thanks
Vincent

Vincent,
Here are two more photos. Also I sent you a PM.

Nice clean 43, what year ??

I agree with Dennis, nice boat.

Our boat was built 11 years later, but does not look any newer. In any case the 43DC had an impressive model run, almost as long as the 53MY.

I find it difficult to apprecitate the looks of most boats now produced, perhaps I am fixated on the mid 70's when I finally got out of school, and drove a 1974 Cutlass Supreme Salon, which remains one of my favorites among the cars I've owned.

See page 5 of the thread Refit 1965 41 DCMY for photos and details of an articulating radar mast we built for Loose Change. It allows you to alter the mounting angle of the radar to compensate for the boat's change in angle from slow speed to planing speeds. If you want additional details let me know.

Thanks,
That is a very logical approach to the problem of changes in trim on radar angle. Your mast goes through a fixed bimini, and when I steer from the FB I usually fold the bimini to tan the bald spot on top of my head. I am going to put the mast behind the bimini.

Scrod,
I keep her at the Anchorage in lindenhurst. Where are you moored?

TROUBLE

Docked at a house in Amityville. For some reason I always thought you were on the North Shore or further out east. Go figure.

I made up an 8' long patern out of 1/4" plywood and cut a 4" to 8" taper and clamped it to a plywood box beam attached with a hinge to a 16" high base. I tried 2 angles and decided I need more light. I think it will work.

Vincent,
Went to the boat on sunday and the guys wrapping it had stepped the radar mast already. I still took pictures for you and measurements.
the hinged base is 10"long and 9"wideradar mast 001.webpradar mast 002.webp

the mast is 84" tall to the bottom of the radar mounting plateradar mast 003.webp

the mast is 3.5' x 2 " at the top and 7" x 2" at the bottom

Obviously, the base is hinged to allow me to lower it for bridge clearance.
