Hatteras Model
43' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1978 - 1983)
I'm just finishing up rebuilding the gunwales on my 43 and will be painting it soon. I did this same job in '04 and used a 2 part Hatt off white paint. It held up fantastically for 16 years, and for the life of me I can't remember what I used. I checked Interlux Perfection, and they don't have Hatteras white, only "cream". What I used was definitely 2 part. I mixed some grit with it for traction and its held up very well. Any suggestions?

The original paint was probably 508u. DuPont Imron. You can probably find a match in Awlgrip

The Interlux one-part paint (Brightside) does have an exact match, but the two-part series (Perfection) doesn't unfortunately. I used the one-part on my transom after I removed the very old name and I can't tell the difference. And I only painted a rectangular area (where the lettering was), not the whole transom.

I have had excellent results with Brightsides, but I know it's not a two-part so I can't endorse it for more than about seven years at this point.

Thanks. I have an old note stating Imron 67766u. That may have been what I used back in '04. Does anyone here know the difference between the two?

508u is a base white color.

If you have the old number you can get the mix at the imron (axalta) dealer in the area. I had 3 boats color matched recently. My buddy comes out with the color match camera and its always perfect.

Take a look at AwlGrip Oyster White. It matches some of the older Hatteras off-white colors very well and is easy to apply with brush and roller. Wears like iron, too.

67776U was an Imron color on the chart ,very close to 508U.

The old Imron is no longer available. The new stuff is 2 stage Imron Elite. You can ask that they mix it as a single stage which is what I have done because I figured it would hold up better than a base coat/clear coat. The color code is 883769. That is an exact match to the old 67766u.

On my 1981 61 CY I used 1/2 awlgrip oyster white and 1/2 awlgrip cream . It was a very good match ....Pat
