  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht

Not Currently A Hatteras Owner
I just installed a new Atlantes Freedom in the guest head yesterday and I noticed that the vented loop on the discharge side makes a pronounced squeak upon every flush!

I am in the process of installing two Atlantes (one regular and one elongated) in the guest and master heads and my wholesale supplier sent me two 3/4" vented loops for the intake side and only one 1.5" vented loop for the discharge side because they did not have a second one. They are white in color and made by Thetford.

I had to go to West Marine to get the other 1.5" vented loop and this one is black in color and made by Forespar. This is the one that makes a loud squeak noise that can easily be heard in the head, in the hallway near the head, etc. The funny part ius that it kind of sounds like a female passing gas, so I could probably have LOTS of fun with my female guests! On second thought I guess I will just replace it ASAP with another Thetford as soon as I can get my hands on one.

Has anyone ever experienced this and is there a remedy by chance?

Byron,
I didn't realize that I could order my Atlantes with an interal vented loop, so I was forced to add those as well. I used the big bronze vented loops and had no problem on either the fwd or mid toilet. Then, when I got to putting in the master, I didn't have a loop. I installed it without one and it works just the same as the two that have the loops. I guess my point is that maybe you don't even need them. All three hold the right amount of water in the bowl and have had no problems for 2 full seasons now.

I thought more than the water level in the bowl that it was a safety issue to install vented loops to reduce/eliminate the risk of flooding if the boat was running or sitting low in the water. I am installing the vented loops in the master as well, but they are only barely above the current waterline. There's just nowhere to mount them any higher. Should get the master head hooked up this afternoon.

Used the guest head for the first time this morning. NICE! MUCH quieter than the old Groco's. Not silent by any means, but much better. The motor is quiet but as soon as the water is sucked out of the bowl the gurgling/sucking sound is most of the noise for the duration of the flush.

I spoke with Forespar and they said to twist the duckbill so it does not resinate. I tried that at least a dozen times and still squeaks. Oh well!

Up here in the lakes, I run only to the holding tanks, so flooding the boat is not an issue. If I had left the hosing and valves to divert overboard, then yes, I would have installed the loop.

That makes sense Sky. My boat was primarily used to shuttle the family from Nantucket to Nassau and back every year. The vast majority of her cruising life was offshore so they rarely used the holding tank. I elected to keep her that way as I install new heads and replace hoses, etc because I too plan to spend much of my cruising offshore someday!

I just finished installing the elongated one in the master bath this afternoon. Got both vented loops installed (no noises this time) although not very far above the water line. It functions exactly like the guest head but this one may flow a bit more water, maybe due to less rise in the hoses? If it had a tank on it, you would swear it was a real elongated house toilet! Just perfect!

I installed a Forespar vented loop when I installed my Raritan Atlantes head. I have heard a little squeek ocassionally, just thought the Admirl was, well, you know. I installed it so I could choose the "water in bowl" option. I later found that turning off the water in bowl function still allowed water to remain in the bowl, just not as much. The water level with "no water in bowl" selected is just right. Now I wish I hadn't gone through the grief of installing that vented loop. I will bet if you remove the little cap on that forespar loop, pull the rubber flapper out, and put a little vasoline on it, it will tweet no more. I looked into the Raritan internal loop and they told me they sell that kit for almost $300.00. What a joke that is.:)
