  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
56' MOTOR YACHT (1981 - 1984)
Shortly after I purchased my boat in Jan of this year I bought a set of MarQuipt sea stairs (standard 6 steps).

I'm a fan of the product/manufacturer and also had a set of them on my old boat. The last few months have been spent at marinas that had floating docks and the 6 step model that I purchased doesn't quite cut it (just a bit too short). The stairs barely roll on the dock and are much more ladder like than I or the admiral would like. I have a small podium that I set on the dock that acts as the 7th step, but depending on the wind/tide the ladder isn't always centered on the ~2x2 dais/platform.

I thought the 6 step would be fine for the times when I was on docks that were fixed but low, but the 6 steps just don't cut it from my 56 when I'm on a less substantial floating dock. I think the stairs would be fine for anyone with a 15'10" beamed hull or smaller which I believe has a bit less free board.

My thought is to try to offer the "almost new" sea stairs to try and recoup some of my costs I look to purchasing a 7 (maybe even 8) step custom model from Marquipt.

The real motivator for this thread/offer/request was the rather graceless job I did when debarking the boat on Friday night. After an evening of cleaning the port engine room and bilges I was in haste to get a bag of soiled rags and oil sorb pads off the boat. The general outline of the story is; its late, the dock is poorly lit, I'm rushing to get some trash off the boat - the story ends with a sprained foot, twisted knee and a rather deeply wounded pride. All will eventually heal. I just would like to get a longer set of stairs that will be at a more gentle angle away from the boat and be able to do away with my "dock porch".

So if anyone is looking for a lighly used set of MarQuipt sea stairs, I've got the ladder - 6 steps with white tread, the two sets (2 brackets per set) of the mounting brackets (my boat already had the mounting brackets installed) and 1 "offset" hand rail, please let me know. PM me or send me an email.

I'm in the St. Simons/St. Marys GA area right now so shipping would be from there.

Kind regards

Would sure be interested in price and exact design. Are these the kind that fold up along hand rails and run parallel to hull when exiting off of a 2' platform??

Yes, they are. Please make feel free to send me a email or PM with an offer, I would like to recoup some of my expense.

Best regards,

The one's you are talking about are the fingure pincher kind ? Yes I have one too 7-8 steps I think but I'm missing my port side pair and some shorter ones would be ok but can you include a picture and price :o

Yes, they are the 'finger pincher' type. I'll try to get away from the office during daylight hours so I can take a picture.

Mr. Timothy Rogers,
I have the exact same problem with my 6-step stairs from Marquipt. DO you know about the 'flat' mounting brackets they make for mounting on your hulk sides about 10" below your gunnel? I just learned about them and am going to order a pair for each side. A week ago yesterday I took a dive off from my boat and landed on the dock. I was fortunate I didn't hit my head on a piling, boat or dock - but do ache all over!
Anyway, these flat mounting brackets have a slide-in female piece which accepts the safety pins like your normal protruding deck mounting brackets. I don't know the price yet will find out today. Thought it might save trading/selling your steps.

Bear,
That's some good information. Let us know what the cost is, as I may be interested in the doing the same thing.

I met Tim and "His Admiral" a few months ago when I was on their boat while they were docked in the marina next to mine.

I can attest that everything about their boat is first class (am willing to bet his engine room is spotless, unlike mine, but there were workers in there at the time so didn't go there) and saw his steps.

If he does sell them, don't be concerned about them not being what he says they are.

Thanks Col. I will contact MarQuipt to see what they can suggest. If I can do something that will get me an extra 10 or so inches, then that would make all the difference in the world right now.

Sorry to hear about your fall, I hope you are back to 100% ASAP. I'm nearly back to full speed after my sprained foot. I've been getting teased that middle aged/post middle aged is that the sprained what ever stories shift from "diving for the shot" to "tripped while taking out the trash". One certainly has a bit more cachet.

Got off the phone with one of the Marquipt salesman. He suggested replacing the side rails and adding one or two extra steps. The platform that connects the sea stairs doesn't appear to provide a step down..

I'm going to extend my 6 step to an 8 step. That means new side rails, two new steps + assorted bolts and two new hand rails as the one for the 6 step isn't going to cut it any more.

Anyone looking for an extra "off set" handle for the Marquipt sea stairs? It will be superfluous/baggage by the middle/end of next week.

I need to recoupe some of the cost (1 boat unit) to retro-fit my 6 step into an 8 step.

I have only one railing on my 6-step and I might consider buying it so that I could have one on each side. Let me know what you want for it. It might come in handy when I invite the elderly relatives aboard.

Are the 6 step stairs still available?

Please Reply.

If they're like mine (see picture), they can be mounted lower on your hull (if you have more open hull space)so the first step is one step down from the gunnel instead of even with it like I need on a 1510 hull. The new brackets can be mounted with the exact Marquipt specification screws and holes in a fiberglass hull, or through-bolted if that place can be reached on the inside. If you leave your old brackets on, they'll come in handy on higher docks.

Sailorman has a 6 step set for sale with a two step extension. I am sure they would sell the extension by it's self. They looked nice.

I found a nice set so the Admiral is happy:cool:

Looking for used sea stairs

I'd like to find some used Marquipt sea stairs, need only three or four steps. Any around?

There is a 7 step for sale in the for sale section. He's looking to trade for a 6 step. Check it out.
