What’s the difference between wet exhaust hose and hardwall? Are they both wire reinforced? Can hardwall be used in wet exhaust applications?

Obviously, any hose used in a suction application needs to be wire reinforced. Currently the hose on my main engine raw water intakes are labeled wet exhaust. I need to replace these but don’t want to get the wrong hose. Is wet exhaust hose used here overkill?

You want the wet exhaust hose with stainless wire reinforcing it. Its got multiple layers and the stainless wire helps to keep the hose from collapsing. I don't believe there is such a thing as overkill in this instance. High quality, well maintained hose can be the difference between not losing an engine or sinking if you know what I mean. They do make a corrogated version that is a bit easier to manipulate.

hardwall has the wire in it for bends. Both are exhaust rated. I try to use the non wire hose as much as possible, it is easier to work with and lasts much longer.

YES. I only use wire where a bend is required. Hatteras, Bertram, Viking use non wire. You will find wire on the genset exhaust due to the bends. The wire starts to poke through and the rubber deteriorates, I have seen it fail many times. Dave
