Life of 8v92 ti 650 hp

Any one out there with 8v92 ti 650 hp? I have 1987 8v92 ti 650 hp. 3300 hrs. I would like to know what engine life could be expected. The engines have been babied i run usually around 1100 rpm. Change oil every 75 hours. Blow engine out before coming to dock. Have engine warmers on 24/7 year long at 72 degrees. Close exhausts in winter months. I get no black smoke at any time. Never had soot on transom. Do get a blue exhaust when firing up. Goes away quickly. Did not have to add oil in 75 hours - but oil level was down about one gallon. One quart of which went to the catch bottle, have not had to do anything to engines except replace a manifol gasket on one engine in 12 years. Any one thoughts?

Well there are two schools of thought. There are the people who say your engines are destroyed because you have 3000 hours at 1100 rpm's. Then there are the rest of us that believe they will out last you and your kids at that rpm. If it was me I would run them at whatever rpm puts you just below your hull speed. This should load the engines enough to keep them at temp. Yes i have read that link . I'm wondering who out there has 8000 - 12000 on orginal engines.

Our Surveyor said (16 months ago) that by far, most Detroit Diesels he's seen rebuilt had been overheated due to something as simple as a plastic bag stuck in a strainer. The rest were the result of excess smoke complaints from neighbors. Congrats on your good sense of equipment sympathy.

When I was boat shopping I came across a 63MY sporting 8-92s @735hp. One was rebuilt at 4600 hours the other had over 6000 original hours.

Boat I bought has 8-92 @ 735 with 2400 original hours. They start instantly with zero smoke. Surveyor said to keep RPM's under 1800 and they will preform well for many years to come.

To answer your question, continue to treat them right and you probably won't need to worry for another 1000 hours or more.
