LED spot light bulb

Hello all, and Happy New Year!
I have the typical Rayline spotlight (that works great after a rebuild) with a two pin bulb socket, and was wondering if anyone had experimented or found an LED replacement bulb for these spot-lights?
Will they be brighter? Perhaps save power?

I have NO knowledge at all but if memory serves me the power is in the lens. Does the lens control the spot. I would think if that is so then the spot would be brighter.Damifiknow!

i checked about 2 years age and was told that they didnt have an led that powerful yet. they may make one now. try superbright led's or 1000 bulbs.com. they are the ones that gave me the info above.

Just an update,
I was able to find a 12 volt 120 element super white LED with the correct base. 3 for $20. (Not too bad!)
I will update when this arrives.

Hope this link works. Website says the unit is 12 volt, 10 watts, 120 element. It looks like the right base for mine.

just got my Rayline Spotlight totally rebuilt an it is beautiful....and put back on the boat and i LOVE it
i have been playing with it at night ....lol

john, i dont think that bulb is going to work in your spotlight if it is like mine. my bulb has 2 contacts, not one.

Hi Bigbill.
You are 100% correct. The original base is a 2 contact base. I am replacing it, as the old one has been flickering. It should not be too difficult.

Not sure if this is useful, but check out dealextreme.com (same as dx.com). They have tons of cheap LED stuff and it's direct from china...skips the middle man. A few RV guys have found great LED bulbs to use in their puck lights for interior to replace the halogen bulbs. I use some Romisen everyday at work and they are amazing.

hi Sailor John my light was sent out by Diversified Yacht Services in Fort Myers Beach i don't know who they sent it to but we are going to the boat tonight we will take some pictures and i will ask them and post it here ....who ever did it did a GREAT job...

The beauty of the Rayline spotlight and most others is in the curved reflective mirror that directs the light into a beam. That requires that light come from a single point that emits light in 360 degrees, so LEDs bulbs with 120 elements might be bright, but might not create the wide straight beam necessary to point the light where you want it? Will be interesting to see the results.

Update Re: LED spot light bulb

Good evening all,
Just a quick update on my LED replacement bulb search/project for the Rayline search light.
I received the LED bulb for my Ray-Line Spotlight. The Raylines socket required replacement as the new LED bulb is a single pin bayonet. No problem there.

On the bench, the new bulb certainly appears to be much brighter (and whiter) that the prior 'projector bulbs'. It will be easier to evaluate when the boat is in the water.
In the first picture you can see the bulb clearly, and note the number of LEDs on it.
The second picture shows the newer 'factory' LED spot light, which is frankly much, much brighter still.
I look forward to field testing these as the weather warms a bit.
