Hatteras Model
74' COCKPIT MY (1995 - 1999)
Despite repeated efforts, I have been unable to find the hawse deck pipe cover that fits over the hawse pictured below. I have tried four over the counter covers to no avail--the usual suspects--Perko etc. Hatteras did not install this and Sam's does not have the cover either. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. By the way, the prior owner said that the cover did not have a chain attached to it and was held in place with some sort of foam backing. He also said that the old cover fell in the chain locker but unless I am mistaken, it does not seem possible that could happened and I am not about to pay out 300 feet of chain to look for it.

Just about anybody that can fab SS can make one. Weld a ring for a chain hook on the inside. ws

Thanks Bill. aside from that, does anyone know who actually makes the cover for this? It has to be out there somewhere.

What brand of windlass do you have? Maybe it was all installed at the same time and they bought all of it from the same manufacturer.

Try http://www.baconsails.com/ in Annapolis, They have a huge selection of used hardware and gear for sale in their retail store. I once owned a 1929 Antique ACF 47' Commuter and lost that same part (an original 1929) hawse pipe cover. As unbelievable as it may seem, they had one in stock. Give them a shot.

Thanks all. I have checked and I think it may be a Simpson-Lawrence part. Anyone have any good sources for these parts. The local guy said I would find it nearly impossible to get it.

I think I would pay out the chain. It would also give you a chance to inspect it. Who knows what you might find. Just do it at the dock and lay it on the bottom. Shouldn't take that long. Then you know. A deck chair and a cool one is all you need for tools. :D

Given the difficulty I am having in finding the part, that may be my ONLY alternative.

Found the cover after paying out the chain. The cover has a slot in it for the chain and fits fine. But, it runs on the same plane as the deck. I am surprised that it is designed this way as it leaves plenty of room for rain water etc. to get into the anchor locker. Not a big deal I guess but not the greatest design. Am i missing something. It looks like it should have had a lid or something like that.
