  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
38' CONVERTIBLE-Series II (1987 - 1991)
Does anyone know how I can find out what the orignal 1.75” shafts on my 1988 38C are made of. Trying to determine gear ratio we can use on the repower without upgrading shafts

When I repowered, I went with new single piece shafts. Same diameter but I wasn’t going to reuse old shafts. The price of the shafts is nothing compared to the full repower costs. Not worth it. For the 53MY the 2” shafts are 20’ long, $3500 each 4 years ago. How long can the shafts be on a 38?

I needed AQ22HS and had no way of knowing what I had. Do you even know if you shafts are original?

All the Hatteras yachts I've seen where I knew what the propshaft material was had Aq22. Aquamet22HS came along later. As far as I know, that is the strongest propshaft material commonly available. I'd go with that.
