nibral stands for nickel - bronze - aluminum. nibral is a proprietary name. sometimes this alloy adds manganese for more strength, but at any rate the main element is copper about 70%. all of the true bronzes are at least 80% copper. I cannot find 'red brass' as a generic alloy, it must be a trade name used by one company similar to 'hard' brass that I saw advertised once.

red brass - brass with enough copper to give it a reddish tint; used for plumbing pipe and other brass hardware and in cheap jewelry

Gunmetal, also known as red brass in the United States,[1] is a type of bronze – an alloy of copper, tin, and zinc.[2] Originally used chiefly for making guns, gunmetal was superseded by steel. Gunmetal is resistant to corrosion from steam and salt water, and is thus suitable for valves, pump parts and steam fittings. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunmetal

interesting chemistry data on red brass, seems unlike most brasses. the wickapedia definition is a bit suspect though as I believe what separates brasses from bronzes is the addition of zinc. nice work.

Red brass, I Googled it.

I went the old fashioned route and checked my personal library.
