  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
41' CONVERTBLE-Series I (1964 - 1971)
Looking at these enclosures since my old one is about used up. Any one had any experience with this system? I guess they are pretty expensive...$65.00 per sq. ft.?

They ARE expensive - but really nice. Whether it's worth the cost is up to you.

They do last longer that Strataglass and are scratch resistant. You must have a hardtop to use them and have adequate space to secure them flat (they do not roll)

I really like EZ2CY, but use Strataglass on my boat.

We looked at EZ2CY but my wife nixed it, due to storage issues. She chose the Strataglas, so she could roll it up (actually same as prior configuration).

The EZ2CY enclosures are awesome. We are in our 11th season with our enclosure on a 1983 46’ Convertible and it looks better than most roll up curtains that are only 1-2 seasons old.

It is more expensive (about twice the cost of Strataglass 11 years ago) but is far superior and lasts MUCH longer. It does not roll up but can be configured to hang nicely using snaps, clips, zippers and vinyl hinges. It is very durable and scratch resistant. If you do get a scratch it can usually be buffed out. This stuff is crystal clear. I figure if I had replaced my enclosure 11 years ago with the normal roll-up stuff, I would be getting ready to install my 4th set soon (about every 3 years).

Another neat option is that it can be bent. I used it to replace the smoked plexi-glass Ventura windscreen on the bridge. I have also seen it used as a very clean rear enclosure for motor yacht aft decks.

As I said, my enclosure is 11 years old. I have replaced a couple of sets of zippers but the "glass" is still great. I don't think I would ever use anything else for a normal bridge enclosure.

Just curious ... what is the difference in EZ2CY and Isenglas? Isenglas is so thick that it doesn't roll up easily either. Thanks.

Isenglass is the basic "clear" enclosure. It comes in different thicknesses and different clarities. For longevity, pick the thickest and most optically clear isenglass that you can. It's also cheaper than strataglass and EZ2CY because it's not very resistant to scratching.

Strataglass was developed to be an "upgrade" to isenglass. It has a lot of the same qualities as isenglass, but is more resistant to scratches. Definitely preferred over isenglass IMHO.

EZ2CY is a rigid, clear "plastic" that, if set up correctly will give the best clarity, but harder to store because it doesn't bend. Also, can be set up on tracks to slide for ventilation in a total enclosure. You may not be able to open up a front window for ventilation if space does not allow.

What does one do with the EZ2CY when preparing for a hurricane, take it down? If it doesn’t bend, then what does one do with it? It doesn’t bend at all?My isinglass gets taken down and rolled loosely in order to carry it below. I don’t like doing that but it’s a must. I then lay the panels flat on a bunk with blankets between them to avoid scratches and creases.

During severe storm events you can remove the EZ panels and store them below, just as you do currently. What's unique, is that for normal storage (such as off season) EZ recommends leaving the panels in place.
