Hatteras Model
Not Currently A Hatteras Owner
I have a friend looking at a 42 1997 egg harbor looks like a nice boat. How are they rated. I know there not a hatteras but are they just as good as a viking and better than an oceans Yacht? Any feed back would be welcomed?

I owned a 33 egg 1972, I thought it was a good boat until i got my hatt.. watch for the tabbing, my bulkheads came loose and had to retab.

I had a 37 EGG and loved it. It was one of the best ruff water boats I have ever owned. But I like my 43DC HATT over-all better.

Although not an Egg owner, I always thought they have very pretty lines and the joiner work aboard was very good.

However, even tho I am a '72 Hatt I still get people walking up a dock to strike up a conversation because they are impressed with their looks. Either that or they owned one previously and still wish they had theirs. Friend sold his '76 43' Hatt, traded in on a very pretty (nice new gelcoat) Carver, which mysteriously "blows around in the wind"; try 10,000 #'s lighter. Now after only two years is trying to part company.

Back to Egg, if looks was only consideration, then a very nice boat. Once a Hatt, always a Hatt, I would say at this point. This is the opinion section is it not?

Before we bought our 36C Hat, we looked at two Egg Harbors. They both had tabbing coming off the bulkhead. My expert friend told me that they are no better than Ocean's. Everybody used to think very highly of the Egg, but that was back when boats were wood. I was told to stay away from Oceans, Luhrs, and Egg Harbors. Said another way, we were told that the only older boats to consider were Hats and Bertrams

if you have big money you should look at Hatt's big brother, Berger.
