Hi guys, Yes we do have Hatteras on the west coast, And I am one of the lucky ones to have one. Don't you just love em. I have a encloused 53 that is in excellent shape and well taken care of. I would like to have some chroming done The engine room vents (port & star) and the bezels on the outside portholes. They won't hold a polish anymore. Does anyone know of a place were I can have this done? also looking for chrome valve covers for my DD 8V71s. Again, being on the west coast there isn't a lot of chrome shops left, you know, (spare the air) Thanks
 
Hanlon Plating in Virginia, look them up on the internet they have a web site.
Jim Rosenthal used them and i used them. good people to work with.
 
I have a 1964 Double Cabin that I'm working on.

Anybody had the Railing Plates rechromed?

The Railing Plates (Don't know the correct term). The piece that is screwed into the boat and holds the vertical bar where the cable runs around the outside edge of the Hatteras.

The bars are in good shape, but every plate has chrome missing from the center.

Chrome is for our bikes... Because we like them to retain the heat in the winter... NOT FOR BOAT ENGINES...

I live in the LA area and there are 24 platers listed in the yellow pages and thats just for the San Fernando Valley!!!

You must not be looking very hard. Or do you think that platers are all internet experts and pay to list on Google?
 
That is the funniest thing i've every seen. WOW i didn't know someone really did it. I bet he has chrome socks too lol Kinda like these guys with the big rims, more money in the rims than the car is worth... lol

Looks great, i just don't like how chrome retains heat. Many other types of coatings what would look good without retaining any heat. I thought about having some covered blued... gun metal look.
 
Chrome covers on marine DD's are quite common. Just look on Yachtworld at a few 80's model boats with DD's and you'll probably find 1 in 4 of those with 92's have chrome.
 
Don't know where you are at in California, but if San Diego is close, I know of a shop that does great work. The owner does the polishing up here, but his chroming facilities are across the border in Mexico where he can still use the good chemicals that give the nice deep look to the chrome and help keep its good looks for many years.
 
Kwerges, What's the name of the company in SD? I am up in the Bay Area and would like to try them out. We use to have a great chrome shop in Stockton, but the goo-goo heads shut them down.
 
Chrome is COOL anyway you look at it. I just don't like using it where I'm the only person that sees it. You need LOTS of BLING,BLING,BLING. LOL

All right, I'll come clean........the chrome valve covers are OEM, and came with the boat. They look cool, though, and with my walk-in engine room, guests see them. Now if I chromed the shaft logs and struts, that would be bling where nobody sees it.
Next is a chrome sofa.

The mooring bitt that I had done held up for a while, and then quit. I agree that it is very hard to find chroming for boat parts that will last more than a few months. I am going to try Royal Silver, in Norfolk, VA, next- but I may send something to Pacific Plating as well.

I have to agree on rechroming for looks; there is nothing that improves the look of a vintage boat as much as rechroming all those bronze items like stanchion bases, vents, etc. Another thing that helps is using a really good glass polish on all the windows, etc- I found that Griot's, although expensive, makes them look new again, better than just glass cleaner.
 
JIm: I had some rail bases and chair parts done by Royal Silver and they have held up very well. I replaced my bases with SS but the chair parts are still looking good. Hope you are enjuoing that new Cummins power. Bob
