  1. CAPTAIN
Hatteras Model
58' TRIPLE CABIN (1970 - 1976)
Due to the overwhelming (!?) responce of the northbound stroll, we have changed our plans for a wednesday departure (11-29) from Mobile to accomodate the hundreds of folks that have shown interest in joining us.
If any of ya'll want to play hookie, give me a holler so that we can plan for space / meals accordingly ! Seriously, there is plenty of room left as its just me and Gator making the trip. Old Freebird came up with a poor excuse like he's got to work or something LAME like that. Even a bad day on the boat beats a good day at work!! Anyone know how to contact the Schumans on NONCHALANT ?? They should be halfway on the TenTom by now. ws

Hey Bubba, how do you feel about ex-convicts on your sub? :o

Maybe I can swing making the trip now that your departure date has changed. I can't believe nobody else has taken you up on your offer. Sounds like a hoot to me, but I'm easy!

Maybe you can get some more takers, including myself, if you answer a few basic questions.

Does the sub have heat?

Do the berths have mattresses?

Can I have the master stateroom?

Can I drive?

Do I talk too much......oh yeah, I've already asked that, forget that one!

Answer these questions correctly and I'll throw in an autographed picture of me and the Hatteras BubbaKeg to be proudly displayed in the salon next to the deer head! But wait, answer in the next 10 minutes and I'll throw in a set of Ginsu knives! Can't guarantee you where I'll throw 'em though!

NO NO YES YES YES Got the orange coveralls for you to wear-- we can call you O.J. for orange jumpsuit :D ws

[Please zap here if necessary].....Dang Bubba, replies like that sure do make it hard to tip toe! The "old" Freebird would have jumped all over that one as to sounding like the last conversation the wife and I had when I had that lovin' feelin! Bad bird....bad bad bird!!!! I'm sorry, I had a relapse. I'm going to try to behave better, I promise.....[end of zap. NO, I am not making light of being zapped or being banished, I don't think this is over the line, but I am serious about trying not to say anything offensive.]

Alright, enough already, are you telling me the sub doesn't have heat and there are no mattresses on the beds? Dang son, I don't have to stay at no Ritz Cracker to have a good time, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night!

You're a smart boy. Probably got most of the jokes on "Frazier" too. Did you get my point with that last comment? Oh well, looks like I'll have to borrow Ryan's portable "Wiggles" fold out foam bed and his "Thomas" sleeping bag and look for my long underwear. All my really good winter outerwear is camoflage, but we will be coming through God's country so I'm sure I'll "blend". If we make too big a wake on the TN/TOM, I may stand watch on the bow in my camo with my AR-15 and be able to discourage good ole' boys from poking holes in your boat with their weapons of mass persuasion.

What do you call a firing range in Alabama? A no wake zone in a good fishin' hole! Yet another one to file away for Jeff Foxworthy's golden years!

I'm still in Mississssiiippppi with the familee, but I'll check my schedule when I get back to the office Monday and I will call you. If at all possible, I would love to make that trip with you and Gator. Come on and go with us Chris, you and I have both slept on the ground just for fun! Hell, the Army paid you to do it! I'll just stop by Wal-Mart and pick up one of them free-standing fireplaces, a case of them wax logs, and a propane heater for MY master stateroom.

Do I need to bring my 32v big screen and dvd?

11th hour-- this just in.....Thinking that we were going to finish the tugboat fantail job Friday and leave for Mobile Sunday nite, things have changed as they always will;
We need one more (1/2) day to finish which will be Monday. We plan on an early departure Tues. a.m. that should put us in Mobile late that nite. Wednesday prepping the sub and underway Thursday early.
Padookie is 484 miles from Mobile and at 100 MPD you do the math. I am about ready to pull one of my 6 hairs out by the rootis. See all ya'll in Mobile!!
We should encounter Doug and Kathy Schuman there as well to exchange pleasantries and ideas. ws

Still in MS as Mamma has come down with 'bird flew. Will be home tomorrow night and give you a buzz.

Get the heat working, will ya?

HEAT?? old gator is bringin' his super wamadine stainlless steel BBQ and a bunch of cayenne pepper. Youll be beggin fer air after the first meal !!
49 CAP-- 1 in the box. I just spoke with Capt. Larry in Mobile-- he said its 75 and beautiful today !! Kwitcherbellyachin'-- its 50 here. ws

Hey Bubba, you're double clutching the pointer thingy on your computer.

Have you checked the weather forecast for next week? It's in the mid 70's here in MS. Wish I was home on my Hog.

Don't mean to carry on here, but maybe some more members will sign on if we make this thread interesting. How bout getting Gator to post a menu. Maybe that will get you some more deck hands. Then again, it might scare a few away as well!

I'll bring my own munchies and a fishing pole just in case. Oh yeah, do the heads work on the sub? Spicy food and non-functioning heads are a bad combination.

One other thing that may be of public interest. I know where the airport in Mobile is. What airport will we be close to when we get where we're going?

No heads are better than none  Gator dont cook carp, but once the sub's rollin youll be holdin' on and beggin' for mercy!! Menu will be some of the best darn off-shore cookin youve ever had. Yankee beer included.
Now son, there are airports all over the country... which one do you prefer?? I guess it depends on how far we get into enemy territory before (if) we take a depth charge hit. No farther than Padookie though. Wherever we land, Ill rent a car to fetch my truck in Mobile, and you are gauranteed a delivery to the lat/lon of your choice. Spinnin' around cross country gets ya kinda used to bein' on the move so a side jaunt to Kingsville dont make no difference. Bring yer tomtom so we dont get lost.
If you want to fly in to Mobile, Ill drive through all the airport traffic to pick you up. Last time I was there to pick up the eraserhead from Long Island, he was the only passenger that walked out the door!!
The only stipulation is that you dont bring that AVIARY FLU with you; whats the incubation time on that one?? Better let Dr. Jim field that one... How about it Doc??
We are gonna peel out Tuesday a.m. EARLY and can even pick you up anywhere along I-65. If we need to make a trip to Kingsburg, how far off 65 is you??
I wanna learn how to double clutch them Allisons!! ws

Hey, I'm about 120 miles east 0f where I-65 goes through Nashvegas. Maybe you should just meet me at Caney Creek and we'll take Nancy Cay down to Mobile so we'll have a way to get back if the sub don't make it.

I could follow you to the split at Pickwick and turn right. Ah, maybe we should just stock up on some 15 foot boat paddles at WallyWorld. It would be cheaper, and it would help us keep warm on the sub.

I'll still have to look at my schedule Monday, but I'm 99% sure I can make the trip, especially if you don't mind a detour to Kingston. You could stay on Nancy Cay or sleep in Ryan's John Deere tractor bed at the house. Course if you do the latter, I don't know where the heck I'll sleep. But company comes first at my house.

Is there indoor plummin' down there in the hinterland?? Kingsville's only a couple of hours outa the way. Besides, nothin' runs like a DEERE, but, nothin' smells like a JOHN. Thought you wouldve had a Hatteras bed made for yer kid by now!! Wooden boat magazine sells plans for them. By that stage we probably cant wait to get home, but thanks fer yer southern hospitability. :) ws

post script: 99% admit it and 1% are liars :D ws

I'd love to have a Hatteras bed myself! Oh yeah, I do!!!!

I would look into one for little Bubba, but Mamma says I'm obsessed with boats and stuff. She's afraid little Bubba will inherit my disease. I can onlly hope she's right. There's no finer addiction to keep a boy's mind on what's important in life. Hell, she knew what she was getting into when she said "I does". I knew I would come to regret letting her omit that obey part!

I'm gonna hush now to preserve the silence. I'll confirm or deny my plans to make the trip on Monday.

Meanwhile, as for the rest of you, where is your spirit of adventure? This is history in the making. Taking a trip through God's country on the only Hatteras submarine on the forum? It just don't get any better than that!

Were I not poor as a church mouse and didn't have to succumb to a JOB (jeez I hate that word), I would gladly jump aboard for every adventure that came along. But, the lottery has avoided me and I am stuck in this rut (temporarily) and alas cannot partake in such jovial adventures. Fear not, I shall over come this disdainful situation and one day rejoice in great frivolity.

How's that Randy?

You done good Bubba!

Hey what's that signature about an illigitimate carbeurator all about?

I think that means illegal charcoal-- besides, W O R K is a four letter word.
C'mon Wild bill!! Take the cruise and we can get Dr. Jim to right you a note! How about it Doc??
Yottsmanwilly, Wild Bill Hickup (annuit coeptus), Freebird and a Gator. Is this history in the making or what?
I hope after a week of bein' around you good old boys I dont start talking funny. I'll hafta rely on my box o' moon pies and a kegger of RC to act as an antidote. Maybe I can quit dubble klutchin this BOZOputer.
I'll look forward to yer call Monday. As for now, Im gonna relax after that Greek style chicken I just polished off. That reminds me of an adult movie I saw once!! BANNED in 49 states. Tennessee wasnt one of them LOL ws

I already called in sick for a week. I had a heart attack and the Doc wouldn't let me do anything. I sneaked to the boat when he was'nt looking. Besides, I don't think Alabama or Mississippi or anywhere else for that matter is ready for such a crew. They'd hafta call up the National Guard. And I've already been thrown out of Alabama. Sorry guys, I just can't make it. But send lots of pictures, I can always pretend.

Hey don't worry, I have signed orders from the late great governer of Alabama, George C. Wallace, hisself, appointing me as a LT Colonel Aide de Camp, in the Alabama State Militia, I also have his autographed picture suitable for framing! I got you covered down there. LOL :D

Hey Chris, I see you finally showed up at the bar. Too bad the bouncers got us before you joined the party!

I never thought I'd say this, but sometimes zapping is a good thing! :)

Are you going to try to join us on this little adventure or not? I made the sincere statement that I believe a little jawing in these type posts helps prospective cruise volunteers realize what they would be getting themselves into should they decide to come along. It could help the host as well as we would not want an unhappy camper on this trip, and I do mean CAMPER! I'm not sure why that particular post got zapped, but I know that you would be fully aware of what you were getting into if you signed up for a cruise with me or YottsmanWillie!

Like I said earlier (the proof may be poof now) me and you have slept on the ground just for the fun of it, and the Army paid you to do it! I figure that's one of the reasons you joined up. Maybe you joined the Special Forces because you are just special!

Come on Bubba, you can break away for a few days if I can!
