I've had Detroit's with TI and TA and although the TA (mine were on a pair or 6/92's) is supposed to be
more efficient, it is also much harder to clean when it becomes necessary. The intercoolers have an end
cap on each end which is very easy to remove for cleaning. As stated earlier in this thread, the aftercoolers
are under the blower and is a much bigger ($) job to access and clean. If you plan to do your own work
it is a PITA but if you have it done professionally it doesn't really matter, just add an extra zero to the
amount on the check for the TA.

It sounds like I'm hearing from this group that keeping an 8v92TI running is not as worrisome as I had previously feared. That is really good. That broadens my boat options. I didn't want to waste my time chasing a boat with engines that were already dealing with obsolescence or parts scarcity issues.

I really love the Hargrave Hatteras motor yachts with their back porch and pilot house flush deck design. But they are all 30 to 40 years old now. I trust an old Hatteras is still better than most newer brands. I'm just being careful and researching things thoroughly. Thanks for all the information.
