My interlux rep told me to use awlgrip and leave the perfection to the diy crowd.

You can spray it but its not made to be spray! That is straight from Interlux.

If spraying should go with better two part paint same amount of work but will last a LOT longer.
What do you suggest?

Is that the best?

Hatteras used DuPont Imron for years to paint the boats when new. Awlgrip was a little tricky to spray. You have to get the correct reducer - temp wise and use the correct amount. You have to put it on fairly heavy to get the wet look shine that everyone wants. It was a pretty fine line between shine and sags. Imron gives almost the same level of shine and durability but, wasn't near as fussy to shoot. Just my 2 cents worth.

What does the yard use most alexseal, awlgrip, Imron all good paints best to let them use what they are most comfortable with. I have used Imron, Sterling but now use Awlgrip.

I was doing roll and tip so awlgrip was the best choice. Ive also used awlcraft 2000 and imron. Id hire a good painter (I rarely spray myself ) who can do a better job than you. Ill do the prep but a good painter is worth it.

I just went with what the guy at west marine said was the best because I was going to roll it. But I will talk to them and get awlgrip and use the perfection in the salon or something.

You listened to the guy at west marine? Turn in your hatteras.

Yeah I know. Lol

Now that's funny...

It will work nice for the Bilge

Guys in west marine don't know about Awlgrip because it not on there shelves :D

OK I went down to the yard and talked to the painter and he said he mainly uses Nason. He had 2 boats in his building and one was awl grip and the other Nason. Both looked good but the Nason looked like glass. He likes the Nason. Is this good for this boat?

Nason is a dupont industrial paint if memory serves. It will not last as well as imron.

Go for it. I have had mine for 35 years. Put a few engines in it and have two spares in garage and extra parts hanging around. 440 chryslers. Made to run hard. I have had more comments on it that made me feel good for keeping it up. Lasts for everphoto-5.webp

Thanks. That's a good looking boat for sure.

Just got to stick my nose in here Daniel whats the hull Number . Is it by chance somthing like 3433???
I had a 34 a long time ago in the early 1970. It would not reach blue watter so i installed sattle tanks two stainless ones out bound of the 440 chryslers. A man from Newbern bought it from me. A lot of things seem to match. If that is the same one got a lot of info for you about it.

This is what it looked like before.

Just a thought. I reworked my engines twice in the past three years because of ethanol gas. If you do not have access to non-ethanol gas you will need to replace tanks with metal ones as the ethanol gas will eat the fiber glass resin in the tanks causing damage to intake and valves eventually eating tanks to leaking stage. Do not even try it. Some states will not sell non-ethanol.The resin tainted gas will glue your valves shut and push rods will bend or break. Tear engine down, steam clean intake and heads replace push rods, drain tanks of old gas and never use non ethanol with fiberglass tanks again. All is great now that I learned a valuable lesson before it ate through tanks. As the realization of the damage that ethanol can cause to recreational vehicles, non ethanol has become more prevalent up here on the St. Lawrence river. just read other posts. You already know about this. I still would not use ethanol gas in anything other than a automobile made to use it.
