30 AMP shore power fuse or breakers?

Interesting you mentioned Marinco wire not being tinned. I just cut off ends on my 1 year old 30 amp cables to splice new SmartPlug ends onto and the wires were not tinned either. Bought these from Defender who has high inventory turn over, so probably safe to say Marinco does not use tinned wire on their 30 amp shore power cables. I sure would be pissed if I spent $500 on a 50 amp cord and found out the wire was not tinned.

West / port supplies advertises Ancor tinned 50amp cable (bulk) but tried to deliver untinned marinco

Needless, to say I didn't accept it.. Ended up getting it at Ward Electrics in FTL.

I also have had problems with marinco so I push Hubbel as the better alternative but too many people see only price. It comes down to getting what you pay for.

That's about what a 50 foot hubbel cordset runs.

They were hard to find on defender, under 'panels' sections instead of 'fuses/breakers'.

Would be interested in seeing final instalation using Blue Sea breakers. Is there a weatherproof panel for those breakers? I'm still in the "clean the fuses mode" while trying to decided what/if I should do differently.

I don't know of purpose built water/weather proof enclosure for these breakers, but it should be easy to find electrical enclosure or make one. I don't think I'm going to bother with waterproof one. On my 43DC the existing fuses are behind an interior small sliding access door to the right of lower helm. It's pretty well protected. I felt the original location is better than Hubbell for 2 reasons: 1- It's fairly well enclosed already with easy access. 2 - The shore power inlet side of boat takes quite a bit of salt water spray, even with screw down cap on Hubbell I saw no reason to subject circuit breakers to possible salt water intrusion. I'll take a picture when done and post here. It may be a couple of weeks, I have several winter projects going on at once.

i emailed smartplug and told them about their website saying that the 50 amp would be available for the past two years, and the said yes it has and they apologized. he assured me that the 50 amp is 10 days from hitting the market as long as there are no problems with the final tests. if there are any problems, he said they could have them resolved and it would be at the miami boat show. sounds good. lets see if they live up to it.

I just dont see me melting a standard 50. The 30 is the problem one.
