  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
43' MOTOR YACHT (1984 - 1987)
Question around Ignition Switch, Can I replace the Std. 2 position Ign. Switch + Push Button with a 3 Position Switch, with the last position being (Held Closed) used as the Push button circuit? or cna the typical 3 pos. Switch not handle the Load?
Thanks

He's but why if the buttons work. It just leaves holes

Trying to minimize the space used for the controls, sys monitoring, bilge switches ect...so I can install newer type rockers in place of the OEM toggles and separate lights. One of the Panel kits I have located does not come with push to start only push to shut down (DD 6-71's), They said it would work but wanted to get an opinion of some one not try to to sell it.
Thanks

I have custom panels made for projects like that.

It's not rocket science. if there's a wiring diagram for the start stop panel you can have whatever you need made.

Here's a pic of one I had made for a flybridge.

Good Looking Panel set up..good work

I do not have 6-71’s, but if they are wired like 12-92’s you should be able to use a 3 pos ignition switch with off/on/momentary start. The start position cannot be held closed. The ignition switch turns on the gauges and provides power to the starter switch and the kill solinoid.

Maybe close to what you're thinking about. Motors are controlled by three rockers: Start (green), ignition (yellow) and shutdown (red).

Not as pretty as Scott's, but a lot cleaner than original for sure.

It's possible to do. I would look at cole herse's ignition switch line for that specific switch.

As a side note, I suspect the reason they used push buttons back when our boats were built was due to the startup (momentary stop and start hold) procedure to heat up the cylinders on detroits. Are you running 4 strokes / repowered?

All, Thanks for the replies and pic. good info and better Ideas.

Here is my dash on flybridge. I kept the key switches at the main helm and just removed from the flybridge helm.
