  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht

I am making my annual pilgrimage to Hollywood Florida in a few weeks and I want to know a good place to purchase 12 volt LCD bulbs to replace my existing incandescent bulbs on my boat.

Where would you recommend as best bang for the buck in the Hollywood / Fort Lauderdale area?
Is it worth the extra cost to use Dr. LED's or is there not much difference in quality / effectiveness in using less costly generic 12 volt LED bulbs?

You can PM me if a response in this forum would break the rules.

I am waiting for the answer also i would like to replace some 12 volt bukbs i get confused about the wattage. So i have not bought any. I need about 30 for the overhead.

12 volt from a power supply or 12 volt from the boats battery?

Big difference.

Gosh, I am not sure . I think they are from the house 12 volt 8D x 2 batteries. It is the original factory set up (overhead lights; closet lights; reading lights). Some of the bulbs are the bayonet type found in older cars. Some are 12 volt dc Edison style screw in bulbs like in home use and some are 120 vac Edison bulbs used with shore power or on the genny.

I have all my Hatteras factory lighting semantics blueprints and the Hatteras factory manual listing all the bulbs used in the boat. I will bring it with me to Florida for reference at the store.

I just bought an anchor light bulb and bulbs to replace the dome lights' from Marine Beam. Prices and selection seemed good.

Ditto: Volts is volts

Batteries are not actually 12 volts. When charging they get over 14. The input window on some led lamps will not handle that. Either a DC regulator is needed or led bulbs that can handle the voltage.

Any other recomendations besides marinebeam? Are comments about the difference between less expensive vs. more expensive bulbs?

Thanks

I have been buying my LED lights from superbrightleds.com and have had good results. The number one benefit is less draw on the batteries (good for boats and RV's). most everything these days is 12/24 volt so charging voltage is OK. Also most are so much cheaper than about four years ago. It's call ROI. Return on investment. Can be calculated in energy savings or by other benefit. For boats they make a lot of good sense. Next ones going into my boat are a light bar forward of each engine.

Thanks to all who responded to my post. Your comments and advice is appreciated.

I have been replacing my 24 and 110 volt lights on our 65' Hat w/ LED's of all shapes and sizes.. Superbright.. and of Course eBay.... Cheap... Just type in what you want... Select an American shipper.. (or if you don't care China).. Most come from there anyway... Great prices if you don't go to a local brick and mortar boat store here.... I need to replace my running lights next.. That gets more complicated w/ bayonet bulbs etc.

Has anyone seen a direct or close replacement LED buld for the GE 4519 that is used in the Morse docking lights? The incandescent 4519 has a life expectancy of a whopping 25 hours and is a pia to replace. Im thinking about creating my own if I cant find a LED replacement.

You might try looking at trade-a-plane in aircrat parts. That looks like a taxi or landing light for a cessna.

Mooney 201 landing light also. Expensive and 25 hours is about it
