  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
43' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1978 - 1983)
We have a 1981 43c which is relatively new to us and I have had the ongoing issue of the starboard battery bank not charging with the onboard charger. It’s as though the charger doesn’t recognize that bank even exists. Port bank charges as it should. I am getting voltage to both banks at the charger. Not sure what the issue could be. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Battery banks consist of: (4) 8D’s (2) batteries in each bank. Each bank is wired in parallel for 12v.

maybe a fuse or breaker between the charger and battery or before the battery switch. my 58 yf has fuses in line just before the battery switch

There must be a breaker or fuse between the charger and the bank. Trace the wires.

That is what I was thinking as well. I’m just not familiar with the set up. I will dive into it next week. Thanks!

Thanks! That was my thought too. I will be taking a look at the fuses in the DC ship service panel. Take care!

Just to clarify. With the charger off, are you getting proper voltage at the charger on each bank?

My port side bank wiring had been 'modified' so that the charging lead was not even connected to the bank....

I moved the wire over one post to join the bank and everything was great after that. With these old boats you never know what 'expert' was in there mucking stuff up.

Second the possible bad fuse in one charging wire. Had recently repaired charger not charging one bank. Good voltage on both banks at charger. After going through everything else it turned out to be a blown ANL fuse in the charging line at the DC service panel. Once replaced then no problems.

Mine has a slow blow fuse in the metal box with the engine cutoff switch. Had the same issue. Replaced the $20 fuse and good as new!

Thanks for the information! When you say the engine cutoff switch, are you referring to the house DC main battery switch on the panel in the engine room? Where did you purchase the fuse from? Was it one of the flat fuses that are rectangular and that has the little sight window on it so you can see the actual fuse link?
