Coral Ridge Yacht Club in Fort Lauderdale accepts liveaboards. (We call them marina residents)

My boat is 63' (70' LOA) and I pay $1033/month.

We currently have open slips ready for immediate occupancy.

Who do you have for insurance company?

Not really looking to compare insurance companies. In general I heard that rates in FL were 4 times more than northern locations due to hurricane threat level. Just wondering if that is accurate.

For our boat it was literally double. $5000 while we were in Stuart Florida last year which only included coastal waters not the Bahamas. $10,000 if we had stayed past July 1 that was my quote from Geico, I currently have Gallagher insurance out of Michigan and it was almost identical in cost. I currently pay a little over $5000 for Great Lakes coverage with a hull value of $350,000.

Need to be specific in discussing insurance quotes. Being a live-aboard will get you a different quote than if you aren't. Also, where you keep the boat will make a difference. For example, my insurance added a 20% premium for Monroe, Dade, and Broward counties. I was able to get a quote from several companies, but they were withdrawn when we said we were full time live-aboards [we also tried to say we were full-time cruisers, but that didn't help]. Also age of the boat is a factor. I was non-renewed when my boat turned 20. Found identical coverage from another company, but the premium was nearly double.

There is a 58 yachtfish in Cape Haze that is currently being used as a liveaboard. It is listed on Facebook. It's a pretty cool looking spot too.
The boat is cheap and in decent shape with only some cosmetic issues. Great price 99k (or less)

I was never asked about live aboard status just experience and location of boat and hurricane plan if I plan to stay south of SC.

From the various discussions regarding insurance on this site, I never got the impression that insurance (in general) was 4x as much here (in FL), but as someone posted, it depends on many factors. For example, up north, you may have the boat on the hard half the year. If you are thinking of moving then you will have to get quotes from companies as part of your decision,

We are in Key West. NOT cheap, but weather and location is worth it to us. Pretty much Monthly and fees change with the season. It all depends on your priorities.

That Coral Ridge Yacht Club looks very nice. Is that open to the public, or membership only?
thanks!
