  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
45' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1968 - 1975)
There is a 53 motoryacht in Montauk ... montauk marine basin 631-668-5900
Carl Darenberg ... boat had fire and needs some repair but is for sale at around $40k. Great shot for someone that can do a lot of the repairs themself. Tell Carl Steve Kelly sent you.

Is there any chance of them parting it out?? Keep us informed will ya !! ws

Just got off the phone with Carl at MMB.

Fire started at main elect box, passed through bulkhead between cabin & ER.

FD cut 2x3 holes (hull & deck) to access fire. Interior will need complete refit.

Unlike a sinking, fire damage should be easier to repair. Still trying to figure if this would make any sense to pursue.

Back of the envelope calcs:

40k - Purchase
5k - Tow to homeport
20k - Replace all fabrics
30k - Electrical rewire
20k - Repair hull & deck holes
25k - Contingency

I dunno...I'm already at $140k after a lot of work in restoration. Someone please let me know if I'm missing anything to bring this ole girl back to her former glory.

Go back a while, the owner posted about the fire. I believe it originated in the main fuses in the ER.

You're right, Main fuses in ER.

Searched site for "engine room fire" and could not find the thread. Do you know which member it was?

Found it! user name gflane.

Saw Carl yesterday while in Montauk, didn't get tothe boat ... if you are having a yard do it ... boat makes no sense ... if you can do yourself, it could probably work.
I'm just passing on the info ... no personal interest or gain for me.

I agree that it makes no sense unless you can do work yourself - especially when you can get one in decent shape for about 180k that did not go through a fire.

$180,000 or less now 'days.

Even doing the work yourself, its not a bargain. She likely has much more value as parts, but then you have the remainder to dispose of.
Offer to take her away if they give you the boat gratis, and a cashier's check for $20K.

My company specializes in Fire & Water Damage Restoratation so I COULD take on much of the work for little out of pocket costs. Hell, I could even buy the boat as a biz investment.

Still, the items listed in my first post would need to be sub-contracted. Numbers just don't seem to work.

Bet the marina will buy it for the yard bill and part it out.

Bill - make an offer for salvage rights.

HI all .....I have a chance to sell my 43 hatteras double cabin and am looking for my next project boat so I am interested in this 53 hatteras.....has anyone inspected this boat and could they comment on the extent of the damage and are there any pictures available of the damage.........any information would be appreciated.
I am currently retired and have the time and expertise to do the work myself.
Sometimes I wonder if I need my head examined when I consider these types of projects.....but they do keep me busy and are very rewarding when completed and a Hatteras is always worth saving.....
