  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
Hello!
Can someone be so kind to tell me how many ,where they are located ,and the dimensions on the zink anodes I need on my Hatteras 53 motoryacht ?.The last owner hasn`t a clue and I need it to plan it for taking the boat up to do service on the hull.

Thank You
Ronny

There are two 5" round (like small plates or saucers) zincs, one on each rudder and two shaft zincs, one on each propshaft. There MAY be a plate-type zinc on the transom but I do not believe that was standard from the factory. The prop shaft zincs may be mounted anywhere along the shafts but are usually mounted within a foot or two from the prop itself. FWIW, Hatteras specified that the prop zincs were mounted as far FORWARD on the shaft as possible - pretty much the opposite of the typical practice. Each rudder will have a hole in it where the zinc mounts.

Depending on when they were last installed/the conditions of the local marina/the effectiveness of your internal bonding, you may have no zincs at all left on the boat so don't be surprised if you check and find none there. The shaft zinc can go completely missing once they are sufficiently worn away. The rudder zincs can do the same but the bolt/nut that held the two halves in place will still be there. Each rudder zing consists of two of the small "plates." One plate goes on either side of the rudder with the bolt securing them to the rudder itself.

Forgot...the shaft zincs are 2" internal diameter

Mike is 100% correct unless you have a bow thruster. If so there are 2 cone shaped zinc's there. One on each side.

Thanks a lot Mike.I'm taking her up next monday.
The last owner hasn't done anything since he bought her
in may last year ,and I believe she has'nt been up since 2012.
The harbour gave me an nice deal on lifting her up,hull prep and antifouling paint
,so I want to fix everything below the waterline before winther.
I have a friend who's a mechanic who took a full service on the engines last week and now they are in mint condition:-).
What do you have to spend to get a full anti-fouling treatment where you live?

I just did a 52c 1750.00 which including sanding the botton lightely so the paint would stick better...I belive we installed 6 zinks 4 on the 2 shafts and 1 each rudder ups forgot the big block zink also.

If you have trim tabs, they will also have zincs.

Dam tIM I spent more than that on supplies for my 41c. Paint was about a grand. Primer another $200. Zinc about $100.

I replaced the stuffing box hoses and clamps, a few blisters and some touch ups on the primer.

I did replace the through hulls with new and re fastened the strainers.

But that's before the haul and blast, storage and relaunch. $1750 is cheap for a 52.

Thanks!
I`m gonna pay 1630 dollars for getting her up and back into the water, steaming, sanding,
antifouling paint and zink anodes. So I guess that ain`t too bad after all!
My boat is very white so I`m thinking about remaking the original linings on the hull at the same
time.
I`ve been cocentrating on getting the flybridge in shape the last couple of days, and it`s
beginning to look like something.Got an offer from a friend to refinish all the Chrome fittings on the boat for 1000 bucks.
What I have learned after owning this boat for about one month is that you stay away from Marina
people when it comes to fixing things .They are overpriced and the working tempo is a joke.

Ronny!
