I was just about to post my KVH TracVision 4 for sale and saw your post.

I just removed the unit from my arch because it won't clear the roof of the covered slip. It appears to be in perfect condition with a Technical Manual and Users Guide. I have no idea how to arrive at a fair price.

We may be able to come to a fair price.

How much did you pay for it and when did you buy it?

Have you considered placing it on eBay?

Thanks
Justin

I just bought the boat. The PO said it was about 4 years old and hardly used. It was in a covered slip in fresh water all that time. He said it cost $4,000 but I have no idea. E-bay does not have a TrackVision 4 currently. What do you suggest?

The Tracvision 4 went out of production around 2006 when the M5 came out to replace it. The first four digits of the units serial number will tell the year and month of production. The current version (M5) can be found under $4,000 new and they have been selling between $1,200-1,700 used on ebay. One Tracvision 4 system traded hands here on the HOF twice over the last couple of years for $700 both times as I recall.

FYI: The current M5 (or the older versions) will not receive HD broadcasting from DrirecTV. They used to, until DirecTV moved their HD programming to another satellite. Now only KVH's new HD7 can pull in DirecTV HD. This is why we are seeing more used marine sat tv systems on the market as more and more customers are upgrading to the newer style dish that will receive HD programming on DirecTV.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Byron. Are you interested at $700 Justin?

will it still pick up all of the channels? just not in HD?

Yep, they still pick up all the regular channels offered by DirecTV. The HD programming has been switched to a completely different satellite.

David,
Let me think about it some more. I would like to have HD, but the price may be right. We're on the way out of town, and I have a more pressing problem I'm working at this time.

I wll let you know by Monday next week.

Thanks
Justin

Justin,

You can get HD in several ways. As long as you don't mind Dish Network, any dish will get you HD with Dish Network. DirectTV is much more popular for whatever reason, and they are the only ones who moved their HD broadcasting to a different satellite. The only KVH antenna that gets DirecTV HD is the HD7 which costs $11k+ new with no used ones on the market yet that I have seen. I hear Intellian makes a nice product and they can get DirecTV's HD but again, nothing on the used market so you are talking several thousand dollars.

Figure out a budget, decide who's service you want to subscribe to and if HD is important to you or not. That will point you in a good direction. Bang for the buck in my opinion is one of the used KVH systems.

It's sold. Thanks all!
