  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' EXTENDED DECKHOUSE (1983 - 1988)
I added some of the under cabinet fluorescents in the galley to replace the single light that was there. I tried the LEDs but the Admiral did not like the harsh look.

They look pretty good, but now I think I'll add a trim piece so that you don't actually see the fixtures when you sit at dinette.
Maybe something like this.

WOW!!! That looks great! Tell Lynn I am envious of her. Maybe when we get around to galley this spring Bill will let me do something like that, I have alot of under cabinet lighting at home and love it....just never thought about on the boat. Thanks, Sky. I can think of another place for the lights also....the wet bar!!! ppat

What precisely did you use? I've got 32" from my countertops to my lighting - yours appear to be less than that. My undercounter lights are 110v not 32 v.

This is an improvement on my "short list" if I can find the right match.

big improvement. I'll shed some light on the subject of l.e.d. they are offered in different ratings of warmth ie 3000k = yellow/warm, 6000k = white/nuetral, 10000k = blueish/cool. they are entirely dimmable. as we all know they last almost indefinitely. they are also available in sizes that confound the mind for the light they put out. we just delivered a cabinet to a customer with jesco dl-flex strip lighting hidden inside each vertical side of the cabinet. the strips are 4.5' long, 3/8" wide, and 1/8'' high, with probabaly 200 l.e.d. modules all together and very easy to conseal. albeit included is a specific driver, dimming module and specific dimmer and the total customer cost for the lighting package was about $600. however the point is that there is substantial l.e.d. tech out there, you just need to look around. many, many young companies producing interesting products. look further than home depot or west marine, go to a quality lighting showroom and ask a salesman. look up Jesco l.e.d. on google too.

Drat! Arrived in Ft. Lauderdale on Saturday night, and my light's out too. Worse, I have been tracking a leak which leaves salt deposits over my sink and in the storage cabinet to its left. Only seems to leak when we are gone.

This light not only illuminates a dark area but is also our night light, so usually on 24/7.

Got any pix looking up at your new installation showing location?

Hey Jim, Where in Ft Lauderdale are you?

These are 120v fixtures from Home Cheapo. They come in a 3 pack and can be linked together. They each draw 8 watts and have individual switches on them. Here are some pics of the install before adding the trim piece in front of them.

Thanks Sky. I'll go have a look.

I used some Home Cheapo 12v halogens for under cabint..also glare and harsh.....So i replaced 20 watt bulbs with 10 watt...also Home Cheapo..much,much softer .....

Thanks Jack. There is some sanding dust, etc that needs to be cleaned up. Once the whole galley is complete and we finish the new spice cabinet I'll post some pics of the finished product.

I used the old power cord to the Nutone Food Center to feed a switch and some rope lights under the kick space of the cabinets. It gives a nice "night light" effect.

I also expanded the hatch into the area that once had the Nutone. The new hatch is larger and hinged so its much easier to get into that area for storage.

My god Sky...A spice cabinet on a boat!!!! I still use a bucket for a head on my racing sailboat. A spice cabinet is way way down the list. Maybe I need a spice cabinet for our Hatteras though. Wow, really,...a spice cabinet. What are we coming to. Next you will be hanging an oil painting of our ilustrious president on the salon wall.:)

Maynard,
I'll let you in a little secret. I ran out of solid surface material for the forward bulkhead backsplash. I had enough for behind the cooktop but not for the rest of that wall. The spice cabinet was something I saw in some pictures of a 53YF. It will fill that space, look good and be a functional addition to the galley.

Just don't tell anyone how this came about. The judges may frown on that.

I actually have a very nice print of the pres. in a circular frame hanging in mine. I would have bought an original oil, but I just couldn't justify spending that kind of money on something that I'm going to throw darts at. :D

I'm just waiting for the 2010 commerative picture plate collection to come out, so I can hang nice coffee plates over the fwd wall of the dinnette with Nobama, Polosi, and Biden. How nice would that be? Or, I could use them as "bumper covers"!
