A little gee-whiz information from Virginia.....

Last Friday we moved our boat from Ocean Marine in Portsmouth, VA to Tidewater Yacht Marina (same city). Some of you have probably stopped here at Tidewater on your Spring or Fall migrations and you may know that the owners, Gordon and Kay Shelton, have run a good operation for more than 27 years. The day we moved in we learned that the Sheltons sold the marina that day to Suntex Marinas LLC. We've heard that the company owns at least 10 other marinas across Texas and the eastern US. It will be interesting to see what changes as a result of this new ownership.

We're on the main dock leading to/from the marina office and restaurant. Stop by if you're in the neighborhood.

Mike, is it noisy there? I recall it being right in the center of things, and pretty busy at times, especially in the summer with the festivals, and in fall/spring with the migrations... I guess now it wouldn't be...

Jim, much quieter here than being directly across from the shipyard (my employer). But you are correct about being closer to the center of summer activities in the Norfolk harbor, which will no doubt rachet up the noise level. We hope our great view will mitigate the noise issue.

Cindy says Hi.

Good luck with the new owners. Suntex bought Amelia Island Yacht Basin and they spent a lot on landscaping, remodeling their office, and let most of the the good employees go and brought in their people. However, the docks continue to deteriorate, poor lighting and a number of boats have left. They've already changed managers. Hopefully your marina will have a better experience.

I like to visit TWM, but it's a dirty place. I hope you like to wash your boat couple of days.

I ve stopped there many times, great service. They didn't mind staying late to refuel and they always had the best or almost the best fuel price on the ICW.

I remember, maybe 3 years ago, I had finished refueling and they re opened the office and pump for a guy coming in to take just 20 gallons. So it wasn't only the thousand gallons full up they were helpful to

I hope that doesn't change too much.

Hi to both of you! Can you PM me a phone number? I think I am going to be down there before too long, but driving, not boating. Would be good to see you all.

Same outfit that bought York River Yacht Haven last October.

Yep, have you heard any reports about how that's working out?

No, nothing yet. I probably will this summer since it's so close to me and the marina crowd all knows each other.
