  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
Does anyone know of a place to get stock staple rails, which are the curved rails on the back of a swim step, they look like a staple. Need to be at least 2 1/2 inch stainless tubing. The cost to have these things made is staggering. Would love to find some stock ones. John

John, not sure what you’re looking for. Do you have a photo? Who knows I may have one.

They look like stainless steel arches. Is this for a Hatteras? I don't recall seeing anything like that, but there are MANY newer models that I have very little knowledge of.

Where are you located? There is a shop in Annapolis that could probably do them for you if they had a drawing- are all the "staples" the same?

i think he means something like this
Swim-platform-rails.webp

They're usually pretty heavy and recess into the platform. Ive never seen them surface mounted.

That is what he is talking about, I think, but the tubing diameter he's referencing is much thicker. I think Metalcraft Engineering here in Annapolis could do these, but they would need a drawing etc.

As Scarlett knows, I went through this during the winter of '15. Had an new, custom, extended swimplatform made and 4, 3in dia stainless staples fabricated which fit into 8 5in deep ss 'cups' . The shocker was that the staples costs me 50% more than the fabrication and install of the platform!

3 or 4" diameter polished stainless should be cheap. Bending it and then polishing the bend area is no big deal either. I'd bet they'd cost $25 each. I'll ask that sailboat guy down the dock.

The other thing you could try is the Marine salvage yards. Sailorman in Ft Lauderdale or Strike Marine Salvage also in Ft Lauderdale

The salvage yard idea is a great one, only problem is I am on the West Coast. And I do not know of one out here. There are probably many hurricane wrecked boats with these rails but I don’t know how I would find them. Thanks for all info. Got a quote to make them here, $650.00 each. For that my wife can crawl out of the dingy onto the swim platform. John

You might try Swensons metal shop in Alameda. They specialize is Marine fabrication. 1-510-521-8454

The ones I ve used are usually 2", that s enough. We have a set for the boat deck on the lazzara 84 i run, i just measured them.
