Hi all

I have dual 1000 series racors for my primary filtration on my 6v92 mains. I'd like to remove the bowl on 1 racor to clean the bowl an remove debri that's collected on the turbine. When I changed the filters I rinsed it with clean fuel but the bowl is a bit cloudy and it didn't flush out the debri that's settled on the turbine. Do I need to purchase a seal kit or can I use a spare o ring from another filter? I've never had one apart before and don't want to wait for a seal kit to come by mail if it's the same as the top o ring.

Buy the kits, do both, is not a difficult or time consuming job but well worth the time and effort.
 
The seal for the bowl is the same as the lid. I would wait for the kit and rebuild the filter. There's not much to rebuilding the unit. It's mainly cleaning and replacing a few seals. Takes about 30-45min once the unit is removed. If you've got gunk in there, you should clean the check valve ball and replace the seal. If you want a quick fix until you get the kit, remove the drain completely and pour clean fuel down the unit with the media filter removed. This will usually rinse most debris out. Use a paper filter to remove the solids and repeat as necessary. Since you have the dual filters, why not just switch over to the clean filter until you get the kits?
 
Racor says specifically to never use alcohol-based (water-absorbing) fluids with their filters. It degrades both the bowls and the filters.

I wouldn't use the polishing compound mentioned in the instructions either. You can't get all this abrasive stuff rinsed away. These particiles probably look like boulders to the injectors. If your bowls are frosted this is a great time to replace them while everything is apart, not to try to buff them back into shape. Compared to injectors bowls are cheap.

I'm going to go to Jamestown distributers in the morning they have them in stock. It was just one of those while I'm down there moments. The bowl has been cloudy since I've owned her and I had just changed over the old cartridge secondaries to spin on type filters and was looking for something else to service. I don't have many days in the engine room were everything goes well and I'm looking for something else to do. I guess my to do list is getting smaller. This boat was neglected by the po. and this is my 3rd season with her. I'll leave it at that because if she knows I'm posting about looking for things to do something will go wrong for sure.

Seems pretty clear except I wouldn't use any alcohol on the filter bowls.

Thanks for that link Saltshaker. Although I have done mine 16 months ago (all 6 of them i.e 3 per side), I needed a bit of a brain jolt to get the facts back, old age!
My fuel is VERY VERY dirty and I have all 6 open at the moment and will be changing them next month together with a lot of other servicing.
4 of the 6 bowls are full of black material.

If you remove the bowl make sure to unscrew the turbine, remove the gasket and ball, then smack the turbine upside down onto a rag. Black goop seems to hang up unseen inside the turbine, a couple jolts will break it loose.
