While trying to plan the route for my new a/c hoses I have(surprise surprise) discovered a new issue. The vent line for my holding tank has collapsed in the loop before the thru-hull. Now I understand why it has been near impossible to pump out my holding tank. Replacing the entire length will be a real chore. Can I just splice the section I can easily reach?

it was a pain for me too, but i wouldnt splice it if it is the same thin hose with the ridges in it i had in my boat because you might get a collapse somewhere else. i have a 79 46 convertible. i did have a hatch in my galley where the hose meets the tank. from there it went into my port bedroom and into the closet. i was able to take the closet wall apart which was easy enough. the hard part was from the hatch to the closet. i had carpet at the time and the only way to get the hose out was to cut a hole in the floor. if you have carpet, not a big deal, do the job right, but if you have hardwood, i would go for the splice and hope for the best, that is assuming you have the same set up as me. unfotunately you might not be able to pull the hose from the tank to the vent because the hose is caulked where it passes thru the stringerthats why i had to cut a hole in my floor. my tank didnt have a filter either, so i made one which has made my neighbors happy. hatteras at least with my model did a poor design job with regard to accessing the vent and pump out hoses, as for the filter, maybe they didnt use them in 1979. hope this helps, good luck

Is your vent up high or at the water line?

Why not get a vented loop made of plastic or metal. Cut the line and hose clamp the vent onto it. If the kink is in the loop that should take care of it. You will not actually vent the loop though as that might smell. Just a thought. Ron

myfilter is above the vent probably 18 inches or so from the bottom of the filter to the vent. the loop is now on top of the filter and the goes right to the tank. i had to make a filter because the standard ones didnt have big enough fittings. my vent line is 1-1/4 so i went to a pet store and bought cotton for each end of the filter as well as charcoal also bought at the pet store. go to home depot and get the pvc pipe you need with the fittings and glue and your filter will go together quickly at a fraction of the cost of buying one at a marine store

Now why didn't I think of that? Brilliant! Thanks
