Hatteras Model
63' COCKPIT MY (1985 - 1987)
Hi -I have a 1986 63 CPMY. Recently I have noticed a yellowish watery substance dripping from a couple of locations around my bridge edge molding. I drilled some holes in the edge of the roof (the part that is hollow) right next to the dripping locations and nothing came out. The drippings appears to come from the half round molding itself. I checked the caulking along the top of edge molding and there was no major cracks . Does anyone have any suggestions as to what this might be? Thanks in advance.

In my opinion, it could be water getting into your balsa core in the roof. Once this gets wet a colored discharge will be seen. I have just replaced the Balsa in the roof/flybridge flooring due to the same problem. Is the roof soft in any areas? If so you can cut out a small sqare section and inspect the area to see if you have rot occuring.

I have not noticed any soft spots and have gone over the roof completely during rain and not raining and can not find any sources of leaks or dripping water. I was going to get my shop vac and drill some holes to see if I can such any water to come out. Thanks for your input

The problem with my top was the rain water was seeping into the screw holes made by the seating/cupboard which was not properly sealed when replaced. If the sealing around anything becomes undone, water slowly gets in and you would not see leakage as it is possibly being absorbed by the balsa and when saturated leaking slowly to the edge.

Hope you figure it out before you get any real damage. The boat looks real good in your picture.

Suggest you buy or borrow a decent moisture meter and check the entire bridge deck. You will find moisture long before it leads to enough rot to find soft spots. My guess is you will find some, and the meter should help you find the source.

Thank you all for your input. I think a moisture meter is a good idea and will pursue that avenue next.

Is it possible that it is condensation?
