Hatteras Model
42' LRC - Mark II (1980 - 1985)
Guys,
I attempted to search the subject of refrigerators on the forum and even tried the advanced search but came up with nothing. Was wondering if anyone had any comments on new AC/DC Refrigerators. Looking at replacing my original Norcold Model DE 728 with the new model DE-0061. The old one draws 8A on the DC side and the new one draws 3.5A. Trying to cut down on the draw of the batteries while anchoring out. Any comments on different types would be appreciated. On one site I found several bad reviews and several real good reviews. Need help before I order one.

In the industry, they are widely referred to as No-Cold. I'd look at Tundra as another option.

Also as: Neither freezing nor cold. :D

Are ya'll referring to the new models? My old one 1980 model does fine. It just uses so much power when run on the house bank. 8A verses the new one which burns 3.5A.

Not to throw off topic, but has compressor design become that much more efficient since 1980 or is the new compressor just going to run twice as long (as in twice as small, thus the "No-Cold" reputation)? Maybe the insulation is better on newer units too (or maybe worse)?

I had a '99 unit on my 46C. 12 years of great service. Water was ice cold in the fridge and ice cream stayed well in the freezer. I know they have a reputation for not being cold but that was not my experience.

Thanks everybody. I did find some reviews on another site and they had more positive ones than negative ones. I guess I'll go ahead and order the Norcold. Will let you all know how everything turns out while on the hook.

Just an update on my purchase of a New Norcold. I haven't left the dock so my results are on AC power. The Frig is great. It freezes ice cream and keeps it frozen. Hope it does the same on DC or at least close to it. Anyway, we are very pleased and it looks great.
Thanks,
