  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
61' MOTOR YACHT (1980 - 1985)
Found the replacement Scotsman ice maker thru you all on this site...now hoping for advice on best washer dryer replacement...Frigidaire works well but starting to sqeak rather loudly on spin cycles...

Hey Ruffian 61. The GE replacement will work just fine, but you will need to cut open an additional 1 and a half inches on the top of the locker it sits in. It's a pain in the butt that the replacement stack unit is almost 2 inches taller than the original Fridgidare.

Bosh Axxis washer and dryer, separate units that stack on each other, fit through my I forward hatch without having to cut anything, but just barely. Love those Bosch units. I did have to remove the teak trim, so while I had that off, I refinished it. Win-win.

Thank you so much..

Re: ReTime is here for placement washer dryer for 1985 61 foot

Ok. For last two weeks wasn't sure I would have to worry about finally replacing washer dryer. Irma was not the direct hit for us in WPB area thank God. But dryer after 33 years has called it quits, no heating element now and sounds like jet taking off...can't deny it has served well !!

I guess I will look for Boch axxis as it does not require height adjustment.

Any other tips appreciated...

Search the archives as this has been discussed several times. May tag makes a good front loader stack as does Miele. The Miele set is probably the best and the largest capacity but will cost you 3-4 times what the rest cost. I have the big Miele at home and by far the best washer dryer I've ever used. They also cost 7K for the pair. They're known to last forever and very rarely need service.

I have a 61 MY ( 1981) with the original FRIGIDAIRE washer and dryer ( LC-240H) and (LC -208)
The dryer is not working. A tech came out and said he could not get access to it- it is super snuggly slid in.
My question - It seems impossible to pull out the dryer and or disassemble it from the washer without removing the facia and molding.
Can the fascia and molding be removed without damage? Will the machines slide out once the fascia is removed or will cutting be required?
Thanks

Ian

Most appliances on the Hatts are removable for service. On my 48MY to access the W/D you need to remove all trim, front panel and even a hand rail on the opposite wall and the steps in front of it. That done, the machine can be pulled out. It seems dauanting the first time, but it's a DYI job with no destruction needed.

We had the high end Bosch washer and dryer in our previous home and did not have a good experience. Very sensitive to electrical variances, would throw error codes, and took forever to dry. In fairness, it could very well have been our particular install and environment, as others have had good experiences. FWIW we had a Meile dishwasher and it was phenomenal. Quiet running and superb results. Our dryer on the boat has been limping along for 2 years so we are replacing it with this GE unit:

Model # DCVH480EKWW

GE 4.0 cu. ft. Electric Compact Dryer in White

Fortunately or unfortunately, access is relatively easy since a PO hacked around the entire cabinet to replace W/D previously and put it back together Frankenstein style. Hard to find anyone interested in doing the carpentry work to make it right again.
