  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
I have a three year old Raymarine navigation system (C90w) and for the last few months when I turn it on it does not acquire the vessel position or depth. It does no good to turn it on and off but if I throw the breaker to the whole system, it works fine on start- up. Any recommendations before I call the technician?

If it is anything like my old POS Ray RL80RC system, the installation instructions tell you to hard wire power to the GPS antenna. That worked for a season or so but eventually I started losing my fix regularly. At first rebooting solved it, but after a while nothing but switching off the breaker would help. I solved the problem by putting a simple on/off switch in the power feed to the GPS antenna. Now I cut the power to it whenever it is not in use and I don't have that problem any more.

I also have the problem of the depth sounder loosing its mind occasionally. The only fix I've been able to come up with for that is to unplug the power to the depthsounder module and then plug it back in (or turn off the breaker).

I will never own another Ray product. The only thing I've found worse than their products is their abysmal customer "service".

Last spring I installed a Simrad NSE12 system and I have been very happy with it and their service.

I had same problem. Took the DSM 300 to West Marine. They sent to Ray Maine to reboot the system.Ended up they replace the DSM with a new unit. The old unit would not take the new software. Never got a bill for the new unit. The West Marine manger is a friend. Good Luck !
