Hatteras Model
74' COCKPIT MY (1995 - 1999)
I need to replace mine. I have read prior threads and I do not believe I have one with two prongs but more likely a screw in. Is that possible? I have not yet pulled the bad bulb because quite frankly, I am not too sure how to get to the bulb to replace it (from the front, the back or remove the ring collar)? In any event, I have found what appear to be Perko 32V medium screw 500 watt bubs for about $80. Could this be the right bulb?

Could be the right bulb, but it sure aint the right price! Lemme guess where it came from ... Heres a good hint: search for fire truck supply places. although it is a 12 vdc lite, they had a bulb for my 1/2 mile ray lite for $4.00 . Some fire truck stuff is a higher than normal voltage... just like military stuff;
24 vdc ws

Thanks. I guess I'll just have to pull it to make sure. It was a marine place though.

Mine is a 32v #1238. I got it for about $17. It's a bayonet base (I think that's what it called - the two nubs on the end...you push the bulb down and twist it until the tiny protrusions on the side catch - much like the 32v. lights in the heads/showers).

JLR, you may have the halogen bulb like mine and they are very hard to find and pricey when you do. It is a GE #1946. Just open the latches on the sides and the back door swings open. Then push down the lever on the base to extract the bulb.

Per what Angela said - I paid 18 bucks for mine (32V). I bought mine from Atlanta light bulbs but that was two years ago so I don't know their current price or if they still stock them. All the 32v bulbs for everything on the boat are available from them (or at least they were 2 years ago). I bought a 10-pac (or maybe they are 12=pacs, can't recall) of each of the 32v bulbs used on the boat. Should last until long after we're out of boating. ;)

Not counting the searchlight bulb, I believe there are 3 different 32v bulbs - 2 different small ones for instruments/panels and the 50W overhead/reading lights. Check your original Hatt documentation for the bulb numbers because the instrument bulbs are two different voltages, and, if I remember right, neither are actually 32V. Seems like one is 34 and one is 37 or something like that.

I'll have to take a closer look. I did not see any latches but then again, it is a bit tough to get to the searchlights (I have two). The only items I saw to grab were a knurled screw in the middle of the back , a clampy thing to hold the cable in the unit and two small screws holding on what appears to be some sort of collar that goes around the whole light--just like the collars that hold the lens on the lights above the pilothouse doors. Seeing the bulb variations just listed here means I will have to take the bulb out to be sure. However, I do know it is not a halogen bulb by its shape--it looks like a regular incandescent bulb.

JLR, we have the same boat and searchlight. The bulb you sre looking for is a Jabsco 98039-0060 or equivalent. Depco of all places has them:

But you can do a search and find other sources. About 60 bucks. Perhaps there is a generic equivalent somewhere. I hardly ever use the thing, but I think we have a spare. Will have to go check..

Oh, you may find this helpful too in your quest to figure out how to take it apart:

Same head, but this is a drawing for the manual version, FYI.

George - thanks. That is very helpful but I can't seem to find the exact model I have on the Depco links. I have a model 41020 and although a 32V model is listed, it does not appear to be the same number. Are you saying that is just the manual version of my 41020? If so, thanks for the source. I can't seem to find the diagram though on the lins you sent.

Re the bulbs I checked Atlanta Bulbs and they don't list them anymore. Several sites have them at 58 bucks and change so they are not hard to find but they certainly are proud of them nowadays...the price of limited demand I guess. :(

Perfect. Thanks.

I called a bulb place in FL for a 24v bulb for my 10" Rayline 41120 searchlight and they were out of stock but gave me a great tip: Search the ANSI code for your bulb and they will turn up in a Google search, or even ebay. I had been searching the Jabsco part number with no luck and Jabsco themselves says the bulbs are "obsolete". I searched the ANSI code for my bulb, "DZE" and the 24v bulbs are everywhere from $10-30. So much for the $120 that LB Harvey wanted! I just ordered two "GE" brand bulbs for $13 each.

The code for this bulb in 12V is FZT and as Sky pointed out the 32v version is a GE #1945.

GOOD LUCK!!! :)

I bought three of them back when I found them for $17 - glad I did, and I'll be hanging on to those. I got them from somewhere in Jacksonville, I think.
