AP - President Barack Obama won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples," the Norwegian Nobel Committee said, citing his outreach to the Muslim world and attempts to curb nuclear proliferation.

I imagine he got it for killing the Eastern Europe Missle Shield prorgram. By my perception of Noble Peace Prize standards, I think the event is big enough to warrant decision. Don't get me wrong - I'm not advocating his decision to kill it, even though it did seem awfully expensive and sounded like we were taking the whole burden of protecting Europe from Iran nukes. I would rather see money go to defense then welfare, and we got a big enough problem hitting our books in Middle East already.

Remember he was nominated in February. He had not even finished moving into the white house. Nothing he did warranted his nomination at the time.

I think he deserves it. He has done so much for humanity and world peace. For example he did ..............uh lets see................um um um...............well i am sure he did something!!!!!!! This is a very prestigious award and many good people like Yasar Arafat(spelling) got it.

Seems to me this is a slap in the face of anybody who actually did anything to be a contender for this award. Personal politics aside, this is just unbelievable.

Since you mention it, I see this as nothing more than a slap at the Bush administration by a bunch of European leftists. It's interesting that the whole world hates a strong America until they need somebody to pull their fat out of the fire.

On another note, Obama has been handed this award for accomplishing nothing, just like he won the presidency. It would take a person of uncommon character to retain a normal outlook on their position in life. I'm not holding my breath to see how he does.
