  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
40' DOUBLE CABIN-Series I (1986 - 1989)
I have a friend who has a bid in on the above YW# 76945-2167494 that's a bank repo with Man V10 820 hp engines. They have approx 1500hrs. Listing price is 649k for a 2003. Anyone know anything about this boat or the Vicem line? I'm clueless about this type.

Hi Skip, all I know is they are Turkish and they sure look purdy. All the models I have been on, like the one pictured, have LOTS of brightwork. They are also making the new Trumpy revival boat, which is also nice looking; I went on it at the Miami show last year. I know zero about the MAN engines other than anecdotally at least, they are expensive to service

That's a helluva price but my guess the maintenance will give the term "open checkbook" a whole new meaning....

They are made in Turkey and from the outside, look to be beautifully crafted. I know nothing of the mechanicals, seaworthiness, etc. I only have seen them at boat shows.

I also think that Vicem is the builder of the recently rejuvenated Trumpy motoryacht.

Turkish made, with USA motors. I was one (I believe it was) the 74 flybridge at the Lauderdale show this year. Stunning is the only way to capture that boat, the layout, and the craftsmanship. However, they also had a larger model (I think it was) the 85 - you couldn't give it to me. Same great craftsmanship, but I did not care for the layout. Have always been a sleeper yachting company - nothing bad about them, but always seem to cater to the troller crowd. Their new models are fast and look fantastic (and I also have a new appreciation for slower classics). I would think the only way to really tell is to look at a few older boats (10 years old or so) and see how they hold up. Also a sea trial would be mandatory. Vicem is one of the yards that has been able to maintain a consistent build yard and workers in Turkey. Similar to the Asian boat mfg's there are a select few that turn out great products due to their consistent yard and work force. THose that shop yards and build a few here and a few there around Asia - seem to have less quality product. I think highly of the Vicem - especially if it has good old USA guts. You can't beat the Turkish craftsmanship of the wood work too. I'd give it a thumbs up and worth taking a ride on.

beautiful boats and very well buitl from what i can see. Cold molded hulls are hard to beat, nice lines, beautiful interiors. we looked at 2 of them at the boat show (Naomi can't walk past the Vicem display and not drool...) and what impressed me the most was the engine room. extremely spacious, everything was accessible and highly detailed. probalby one of the nicest ER i've seen.

overall attention to detail seem to be what set these boats apart.

as to the MANs, based one what i've heard i'd stay away but this may be a little unfair since i dont' have any first hand experience with them. i'll take CATs though and Vicems do come with CATs too.

the 54 i looked at had twin IPS btw, the first Vicem with IPS.

Hey George, it's Steve Benjamin, who I think you met, the North sails guy from Conn. who has a place down here in Arapahoe who has a bid in on it. He flys all over the world racing sailboats however it's his 1st foray into power boats. Has a T pier at River Dunes and thats where he'll keep it.

FWIW MAN engines are made in Germany. Sometimes I refer to them as MAN-grenades; just a term of endearment LOL. Be ready to spend some cash keepin them purring. My 2 cents.
