  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
41' DOUBLE CABIN (1962 - 1965)
I removed the original Onan Generator Auto Start Control from Loose Change when I installed the new inverter with its own auto start feature.

The Onan unit worked the last time I used it.

It needs a new home.

Is it a two wire type but still will run the pre-heat on the Onan and then the start switch? My inverter/charger has a genny start feature but I don't know how it does both of those functions on my old Onan MDJF.

When the genset is shutdown and the shore power selector switch is set to the Generator position, the auto start control senses when an AC load is applied. It then runs the preheat for one minute and starts the generator. After it senses rated and stable generator output voltage, it closes a contactor and loads the generator. If all AC load is removed, it opens the contactor then shuts down the genset.

The auto start feature with my inverter/charger runs the preheat, then starts and loads the generator based on ship's battery charge state, not on AC load demand. I had to build a 12VDC relay based interface between my genset and the Xantrex auto start controller to make it all work.
