  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' EXTENDED DECKHOUSE (1983 - 1988)
I'm replacing the output seal on my M20. The output shaft nut is torqued to 400 ft/lbs so I need a good 3/4 drive spanner socket to contact all four dogs. Here is the nut:

And here is what I need:

Anybody got one or know where I can pick one up?

Also, this is the port trans so I'm wondering is this RH or LH thread?

Its a Kent Moore tool maybe OTC makes one. I used a large punch and a hand sledge. After all that my output shaft seals still leak when sitting. Not a drop when running. My MH gears have 2 seals one facing out and one in I put them both in, Polished the coupling area where the seals run, still leak. If I had it to do over again I would try one of those "shaft restorer sleaves" on the couplings that give the seals a new running area.

Mine doesn't leak when sitting still, only when running. At least its clean oil.

Only one seal on the M. Hopefully this will do the trick.

I have a home made tool you can borrow.

I got what I recall were called 'speedy sleeves' from Arcadia when my starboard output shaft started to leak due to pitting. Less than $30 and it uses the same seal. 6000 miles and no leaks.

Thanks Dave. Maybe I'll just pick it up from you next month when I head that way.

Acadian Transmission rented me the spanner.

Thanks to a HOF member, I was able to borrow a socket and complete the transmission output seal replacement. Not a bad job with the right tools.

New seal in place:

Output flange reinstalled with shaft spines sealed:

And reworked props ready to go back on:

Hey Sky when did you Install duo props ;)

Which nut goes on first on duo props???

Is this spanner nut reversed thread? (Clockwise to loosen). I did it once before and while it was very tight my 3 foot breaker was able to free it. It won't budge this time I was wondering if maybe it was backwards thread? My transmission is leaking from the trans housing and bearing cap cork gasket.

Mine was a standard right-hand thread.
