  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
56' MOTOR YACHT (1981 - 1984)
I have an UGLY task ahead and I'm looking for advice on order of operations.

I recently had some leaks from the scuppers. Accessing the underside of the port side scuppers
was modest in nature as the outside edge of the cedar trim was easy to disassemble and gain access.

The starboard side looks much more daunting. There are hatches that provide visual access down towards
the bilges but nothing to a permit access upwards to the bottom of the scupper assembly.

The part I had to replace on the port side scuppers was a simple 1.5" drain retaining nut that holds the metal
piece that the hose clamps onto. A $1 part but getting to that bolt on the starboard side is anything but trivial.

I either need to hire a mountain climbing midget with a completely malleable bone structure or
disassemble portions of the cabinet to get to the offending item.

Any advice or insight on;

1. order of operations?
2. how much of the cabinetry needs to come out?

My boat has access panels at the top of the cabinet to access the hoses and then a boxed run vertically mountd to get them to the sculper. Still not a lot of room to work and I ended up enlarging the panels for more access. A lot of scratched and bruised hands and arms.

Most profuse thanks!

I was looking into the large cabinet abutting the shower. I looked into the top of the cabinet above the
sink and there the access panel was located!

No I'm going to try to find a 7' 108 lb. double jointed boat assistant to see if we can get in there.

You were not kidding about the

The real "aha" moment came when I took the 1/4 round off the cabinet that is between the shower bulk head,
where the shower head is mounted. Once the quarter round was removed, the entire "box" that is the ~24 inch deep
cabinet slid right out. It turned this from a horrible job to an easy chore.

I would like to take a moment to express my gratitude that the engineers and designers and Jack Hargrave's 'crew'
were appreciably smarter than what I would have been in their stead. Thank you Hatteras!

An easy chore thanks to Hatteras design premise of building to purpose and to ease of service.

Thanks again!
