Hatteras Model
54' EXTENDED DECKHOUSE (1989 - 1992)
Looking to possibly relocate from Long Island to either the west or east coast of Florida year round. Any suggestions on either coast. Also looking for a marina that has the capability of hauling our 1990 54ED and do periodic maintenance.
Thanks,

Tarpon Springs and South are your options on the West Coast without going to the panhandle. The further South, in general, the more you will pay. North of Tarpon on West side you have limited haul out options for that size, if any. My 46C barely makes it in the largest lift in Hernando Beach.

You have several things to consider…
Firstly, what will your insurance be.
Central coasts on either side cost less.
East coast is more expensive to dock , cruising is either Intracoastal or open ocean,Bahamas.
West coast as stated from Tarpon south has plenty marina options and many bays for cruising in addition to the open gulf . We pay $15/ft in Clearwater Fl.

Sorry but we’re full!

There are many options depending on your lifestyle and what you re looking for. Pretty much every area of Florida even north central around the St John’s river is boatable.

Marinas and yard are pretty much everywhere as well.

Personally I love Biscayne Bay as it is very unique being usable year round, well protected, with blue/green water (not brown as it not a river estuary) and it is the gateway to the Keys and Bahamas. That said Miami has become unbearably crowded over the last 10 years and this madness as spilled over the water. Some anchorages that were wonderful back then have become a mess of ghetto charters and jet skis.

We have friend on the west coast, Pine Island off Ft Myers. Great laid back community and great boating.

I'm at port canaveral most of the time. No problems with haulouts and finding good contractors but we are not cheap. I don't know what dockage runs in the areas around here but I can say you getbwhat you pay for. Some very nice places here that cost more than others for a reason.

Fort Myers is junk and will be for years. The city yacht basin is closed and undergoing a change of concessionaire. Legacy Harbor is still pullling boats out of the water and a few remain washed up on shore. The Edison marina is closed but they seemed to be working towards opening. The Cape Coral Yacht Club is going to be closed for years.
It would seem as a result the Ft. Myers area is stressed for dockage but you never know.

We kept our boat at Titisville City marina and it was pretty good and reasonably priced with a boatyard next door. The town is not very exciting but has all the things you need and a few good restaurants.

We will be sending you a political questionnaire to decide which part of Florida you can move to.

This is the FREE state of Florida.

I hear Hilton Head is nice.

When I get mad at my Yacht Club raising our prices, I show them Riviera Dunes in Bradenton as a comp. First class marina with rental rates that suited my failed argument.

Riviera Dunes is the most protected marina I know of for storm protection. I keep my 46 there for storm season.

As previously stated here, you can forget about the Cape Coral/Ft Myers area!
Up river marina's there have waiting lists in the hundreds! It will be years before there will be any marina slips are available there. The wait to have your dock removed and replaced is two years! Every dock and lift on the river there was destroyed. They are still removing boats. It took until three weeks ago to get mine out of the yard!! That's five months after Ian! I still don't have garbage cans from the city for the house that got washed away! Sad to say that it will be years before the Ft Myers marinas and area are back in business.

The Clearwater beach marina is going to totally rebuild the 160 slip commercial and private space.
Scheduled to start at the end of this year.
Many boats will be displaced and undoubtedly rates will increase.

Oh snap! When does that start? One of our favorite local weekend trips. Sign up for your slip for as many years at a time to secure it. Golden location and also very protected. Well, as long as the Gulf water stays in the Gulf!
