Can anyone recommend a surveyor in Maryland?

I used Jack Horner Ph 410-451-8133. as usual he missed a few things but I'm satisfied.

I didn't hear back from my friend here today, but I'll bug her again tomorrow.....

Knox was his name, but I don't have the number yet.

I suspect it's this guy though:

I used Knox when I bought my 41TC back in the late 80's / early 90's. I lived in Ct and the boat was in Va. He was reasonable, fairly thorough, and even called me a few weeks after the survey to alert me to something he forgot to point out to me that could become important.

I used Randy Renn (randyrenn@aol.com) of Stevensville, MD (Eastern Shore of MD) for a survey in Chestertown. The web site shows that Renn is the Mid-Atlantic Regional Director of SAMS. No personal connection to Mr. Renn, but I can tell you from experience that he is very thorough. In fact, in my case the seller's broker recommended against this guy because in his opinion Renn would be a "deal breaker". Turned out he was right. Renn found so much wrong with this 58 YF that I pulled out of the deal!

I know this is an old thread, but I have a friend looking at a 38ft Blackfin in Glen Burnie and he needs a surveyor for the boat and engines. DD 6V-92s.

Are the above recommendations still good, any new suggestions? And does anybody have any for an engine surveyor?

X2 on James "Randy" Renn. He surveyed a 53MY in Annapolis for us and he was thorough, knowledgeable and great to work with. We ended up rejecting the vessel largely based on his inputs and analysis of the issues. His other details: Marine Forensic Technicians, 410-604-2327, randyrenn@aol.com

Also, I would suggest Ken Roberts. He has a thermal imaging gun which can add a significant dimension to the survey. We have been on both they buy-side and sell-side of Kenny's surveys and he is another excellent option. kenrobertsecms@gmail.com 301-922-5394

Both of these gentlemen are high caliber in my opinion and are very straight shooters. They let the boat do the talking, regardless of what broker's or sellers want to hear...

I had my survey done by Gale Browning at Hartoft in Annapolis,(800-438-2827 or 410 263 3609) really good then (won a lot of respect from the boat yard owner and my broker) can only be better now.

For the engines I used Tom Hug of MR power. 410-274 7636 is last # I have for him. Super guy.

For Detroits, go to Tom Hugg or Frank Butt (AP Marine).

Thank you everybody for the recommendations. I've passed them along, and if there are any others I will forward them as well.
