I have a set of 20+ year old Lee's Senior outriggers. Some of the support bars and related hardware have become pitted and tarnished over the years (the tubes are still flawless). They appear to be chrome plated brass and are no longer available from Lee's. Has any replaced any of their components with stainless or had the brass re-chromed? Thanks.

prior owner of mine had some parts made from stainless, howeve he used wrong grade, tend to stain a little but not bad. he also rechromed some parts.

i just put on new tips as we hit bridge and knocked the off and i made my own loops to replace the ones that were mounted with nylon mounts that had rotted. made them with stainless half moons and tapped a hole, installed new eye and heated from back and forged it. wraped pvc rubber around the tubes and installed the new mount with hose clamp. looks fine and will never wear out again.

send photos of your rigs, interested to see if they are similar.

as far as rechroming, I have not found a local shop yet that will do it reasonably. getting hard to find them due to EPA standards. very nasty acids used in process. if you find someone let me know as i have a few parts that i would like to do. My fuel fills need rechrome. cant replace, has 2 3/8 hose fitting. also would like to rechrome the large bit mounted to bow.

why not powdercoat? it lasts virtually forever, and looks great. chrome is a hard powder to shoot, but a silver with a clear over it is beautiful. it's a little darker than chrome, but no one will ever know the difference. a friend of mine owns a powder coating business in Melbourne, FL if interested...he did a great job for me on my ship's bell (i had it powdered clear so i never have to get that green off the brass again) and my alternator pulleys.
