Leece Neville alternator (24 Volts) parts

Hi guys,

The alternator on one of my Detroit Diesel 8V92 failed and I got it disassembled to see what's wrong.
The alternator is a Leece Neville (3426JC)
Part number: 8922757
date code: 8728
24 Volts
65 amp

The other engine has a Wilson alternator (part number: 90-04-7054) which is a replacement part for the Leece Neville. This one works just fine.

The technician said the rotor coil (part number is 79516) is broken so I have to find a new one.
Does anyone hold, by any chance, a spare rotor coil? Or even a working alternator that I would use as a replacement for mine. If not, is there a shop or company that would hold those parts?

My Starboard Alternator (same as yours) just died. What did you ultimately do? Repair, replace, rebuild, or???? Currently have a reputable local alternator shop diagnosing the issue currently. Interested in your experience. Thanks

Order the Wilson thru NAPA and move on.

It sounds like you have a 24 volt alternator. Is the boat 24 or 32 volt?

There's a big difference. Don't just buy a new one until you know exactly what you need. Remember the last guy that worked on it may have put on the wrong part.

Run the serial numbers through Detroit. They can give a good history of the engine.

The exact one I have is the one that came from Detroit factory on my 8v92. It is tagged with the Detroit Diesel markings, but made by Leece Neville. I have opted to have it rebuilt to spec by a reputable Alternator/Starter repair shop.
