This is the boat maint job that I hate above all others and the one I've been sweating over for the past hour or so. I'm taking a break and writing this about trying a product that is not sold for this purpose but seems to work better/faster than anything else I have tried: Finesse-It II.

After cursing/sweating for 30 minutes I decided to try it. It was sitting out because I had just given my Cetol'd rails a quick polish with it. (try that, it might make you change your mind about Cetol vs varnish...a couple coats of regular Cetol than two of gloss Cetol then, when totally dry, a quick buff with Finesse-It; Mahvelous!)

Anyway, I grabbed the F, applied/buffed and it took much less time/effort than the "real" plastic polish I was using. I'm not saying it was dramatically better but it was easier to get the same results and since I have Finesse around for several other tasks, I'm always glad to find one product that can do the job of several.

Mike The Prist company makes a great line of acrilic cleaners that are amonia free and work very well and not that expensive.Robby

apparently the "expert" professional boat detailers in Florida use "Pledge" to clean the stuff, that's what they told me face to face,. I used it and it worked fine, good water runoff, and really reduced water spotting.

3M's no.2 swirl remover works great as well and about 1/2 the price.

I too use Pledge original...Not "lemon scented"...
But sometimes finding the original can be a challenge....I found 4 large cans at Home Depot last year.......

Several car-show types that I know use pledge as the final step in their exterior paint care. I have to admit that the cars look brand new. I tried it yesterday right after the Finesse-It on the isinglass but couldn't see any difference.

There are lots of scratches on our isinglass and I'll be darned if I can figure out how they get there. SOme are quite deep and again, no clue. We are probably not more than a season away from needing new canvas anyway but I'd sure like to know how scratches appear when the boat is just sitting in a covered slip.

MikeP,
I'm sure you're aware of the different grades of isenglass. We used to get scratches all the time until we switched to strataglass a few years ago on my dad's boat. The only drawback now is to keep the warranty intact, you have to use their products. You used to be able to use Collonite Wax and that worked very well.

In addition, we don't roll the forward windows at all. With a hardtop, we have the option of putting snaps in the hardtop to secure the window to in the open position. In addition, on the last go around with having the windows made, we also had some small "smiles" put in at the top with a mesh on the exterior so we could open them for ventilation during inclement weather. A real big help to keep the flybridge from getting fogged up.

Hi All,

I'm not sure if this product is made for isinglass but it works wonders on plastics. It's called 210. There's a 210 for cleaning and conditioning and a 210 plus to remove markes and scratches.

I purchase it from Defender.

Best product I've found (and I've tried em all)
